box behind the seat for a sub. has anyone tried?
i have an alpine 500w and im looking for a sub to go behind the seat on one side. not interested in bone shattering bass, i listen to rock and the factory (non bose) has no low end at all. i found a couple of boxes that fit, which are pre loaded with different subs, but im hoping someone has input as to how this will sound. i refuse to mount a sub anywhere that it can be seen from outside the car. any responses are appreciated, thanks!

Behind the seat at the bottom is pretty much out of the question there is simply not enough space down there.
If you are talking about the two shelf's behind the seats they will work fine however you will be able to see them if you look in the car. Kicker, Rockford, and polk all make great bang for the buck subs. I recommend a single 8 or 10. |
there is a JL audio 8" for like 300 in the box. supposedly a mid level sub they told me. sounds great in the store but who knows. the box fit the shelf. my windows are dark and i fugured it would be harder to see one there as opposed to the hatch. cant remember the speaker model #

CSA, where can i get that kind of box for 50$? im having trouble finding anything close to the size i need, and they want way too much to build one.

thanks for the input all of you

gonna be an awful tight fit back there, even for the cv10. (.8 cuft) min. sealed box, and over 4" mount depth. you would be better served with a shallow mount sub, and a box volume as small as possible.

well that JL 8" fit. we tried it. it was perfect. but its like 300$. other than that yea i considered that but like i was saying, to get a box around here is nearly impossible unless i pay a lot to have one made. there is a crappy old sony xplode in a box at best buy that stretches the limitations of "fitting", but i only measured in the store and havent tried it. plus i have a feeling that the sony will suck, even though it supposedly can easily take the power. just looks cheap. at 130$ in the box, my expectations are low.

go to sonicelectronics and look at the pioneer ts-swx251.
should fit right in, and only $100. some good reviews on it as well. if that doesnt do it for you, hell, I'll build you a box for a shallow mount of your choice, you just pay the shipping. i |
ok, thanks ron ill look into that. you deal much with sonic electronics? i read mixed opinions on this forum about them
|
purchased from them many, many times for customers. never had any issues.

we do know that sub-bass frequencies are non-directional, right? if you can tell where the sub is in your car, you have tuning issues. crossover too high, out of phase, ect. one sub or two, any spot in the car, makes no difference. |
cool, glad you said that. i had heard of components being out of whack in that sense, but thats the first time i hear of a sub with the issue. i've put them in random unbalanced places before, but i really don't have a "tuned" ear to notice any unbalance.
