For the most part that is true, especially in a car (the worst possible audio environment imaginable), but multiple low end drivers can set up standing waves if one is not careful. Probably not a big concern for most ppl, but it's why I recommend only one sub-woofer.
But, as with everything else about audio, it's what sounds good to you.

To the forum in general, it's usually very easy to phase bass drivers. Just do an A-B comparison by swapping the wires to one of the drivers. When out of phase, there will be a very noticeable "muddy", muted sound. This works best if you can set the drivers side-by-side and stand directly in front of (or behind if there are no enclosures) them.

more precisely, cancellation issues, not standing waves. highly unlikely to create standing waves at sub frequencies. the wavelengths ar far too long.
1126 fps speed of sound 60hz tone= 18.76 ft wave.
higher freq. is where you may run into issues with standing waves as well as Inside your sub box. for a standing wave you need to have 2 paralell surfaces reflecting that wave at each other.
