Got a Free Sub - no idea what to do next
 

So my buddy gave me his 12" Orion HP12D2. From what I can tell its a decent sub but I have no knowledge when it comes to Car Audio. What kind of amp do I need to power just this one sub? Also does the box need to be a certain depth or can I just buy one of these and have my buddy (owns a wood shop) open it up to a fit to fit a 12"?

There are many choices as far as what amp to get. First off is the sub dual voice coils (DVC) or single? This will help me get an idea of what amp you need. Also what kinf of budget are you looking to spend? Keep in mind if your running a factory radio that you will need a LOC to give you a low level input or if your new amp has speaker level inputs you can use them as well.

Hey bigaudio!! Glad to see your still modding your altima. Alright now for the sub: it has "2.5" Dual 2 ohms voice coils on aluminum former". I really dont want to spend too much. I want that box that I linked, but the amp I wouldn't want to spend more than 200 tops. Doing this mostly cuz the bass was free haha. Also running factory Infiniti G37 Boss system :shakes head: cuz its impossible to install an aftermarket unit in that dang thing.

In the case of your budget there are two amps I recommend.

Just make sure you wire it in 4 ohm configuration!
