Default Audio Gurus - I need some advice.

To those of you that have been following my sub enclosure builds and for those of you that haven't, I need some advice. After building the three enclosures, I was either going to keep just the corner unit or the 2 strut tower units. But after building these things I just can't part with them, so here's what I need to know. I have Morel Dotech Ovation running off a JL 250/2 amp incorporating their crossovers. What I have now is the same Morel's with the addition of 2/8" Morel Primo's and a JL 10W3v3-2 and a JL 250/1 amp. I need to know the best way to incorporate all the speakers. Do I add another 250/2 amp, do I need some type of electronic crossover.....I'm not sure whats the best course of action.
Thanks in advance.
Here's a link to my build; My sub enclosure build!

you will have some cancellation issues. I would run them with seperate amps so you can control them at least to a certain degree.

Hey there! I am a soon to be new 2013 Nismo owner and was wondering if I could chime in!

I come from a pretty decent audio background so here's the first thing that come to mind (i apologize if i didnt read enough into your audio builds).

With those speakers you listed you realistically need without a doubt active processing. I highly suggest AGAINST the JBL MS-8. I would go Audison Bitone, Pioneer DEX-P99RS (my personal favorite), or the Mosconi DSP 6to8 (i hear is pretty good). I have personally used all of these extensively except the new Mosconi one.

Having 8's and 10's (especially the w3) is kind of redundant IMHO. I'd highly suggest getting the biggest sub (cone size) you can fit. Having 8's and 6.5's is kind of redundant also IMHO. There's very little pickup an 8" can have in addition to a 6.5" that a correctly tuned/positioned subwoofer can't. Keep it simple!

I'd like to thank all of you for your support, you've provided me with multiple options and that was what I was looking for. So that you can better understand my thinking on this it’s purely from the stand point of not wanting to give up what I put so much heart into. Truth be told I'm a purest, I have a rocking media room and when it comes to music I only use me two fronts which are three way full range speakers (never a sub!) So my thinking for the system for the car is, I would love to just run the Morels 3 way and sell the sub, I know what the system sounds like with just the fronts and it just needs a bit more punch, but without first hearing the different configurations I'm in a holding pattern. I think what I will do is read as much as I can about the Audison and the Pioneer, then make a purchase tomorrow.
Thanks again ,
Tom

Default Active System Confirguration

I running an active system via an Audison bitTen (smaller version of the bitOne) for my simple one 5-channel amp with focal K2P's in the stock location along with a sub and amp located in the rear hatch area. The bitTen greatly enhance the sound and imaging from the speakers. The crossovers that came with the Focal speakers were deleted in my active set-up and are controlled by the bitTen. The bitTen is more recent signal processor and is more user friendly than the bitOne.

I know the bitOne will controll three amps and may be what you are looking for in your set-up.

The other brands mention were either not available when I installed my sound system or were new. Another source to check into on signal processor experiences and installation tips is DIYMA.

As someone who has installed 3 of these, I disagree. I know the adjustments are limited with them however for a new person going active or even incorporating new speakers into a stock system they work well. Me personally, I will be running a mosconi 6to8 next year with my focal build. I do agree with any of the audio processors as they all have pros and cons.

I'm assuming you are referring to the ms-8. Unless you have a center channel I don't see why it would be advisable to choose the over the other choices considering the ms8 is similarly priced. Its a good processor for people who have little to no audio experience that would like to stop at a basic level. You cannot bypass auto eq. It is counterintuitive and more straining to the system to eq over another eq with the manual eq. You also have limited filter control in addition to shoddy interface looks and remote. This does not even include the fact that the autoeq is extremely sensitive which usually causes less than desirable mid bass for most peoples preferences. I have heard great ms8 tuned cars but EVERY one of them has since changed over (or back to) to audison or mosconi with much brtter results. I've also had one fail on me as well. Never had a problem with the audison or the pioneer.

Here's a link to my build; My sub enclosure build!
Not clear on what you want each component to do but if you want to use all of the gear you mentioned, I would focus on the front imaging using the Ovations, ran by your 250/2's, use the 8" as midbass, and the 10w3 as the sub. Not really a good idea to use both the 8" and 10" as subs. Forget about rear fill on this tiny cabin. You have a bigger problem installing the 8"ers. It is a lot of work to integrate the 8" to the front stage, not impossible but a LOT of work. You'll need another amp to run the 8's. Old school installs incorporated midbass on the rears but does have an impact on imaging. Because it is such a small cabin, it might not be noticeable in a small and confined space like the Z unless you have high tech ears. For me, I'd be able to tell the difference in imaging and staging with rear midbass. Install options would be to install the Ovations on a kickpanel and mod the **** out of the doors to incorporate the 8" midbass drivers or floor board the 8" drivers right in front of the seats facing up while the Ovations stay on the door or the kick panel -- the floor board install is the least practical option if you ask me. Having 8" mbass drivers in a small car makes for a very challenging install but with the gear you mentioned and if done right, you'd kick *** on SQ with the least amount of processing. I just luv the thump of a midbass kick --- especially from an nicely driven 8.

You can purchase the Mosconi from any Focal authorized dealer. A cool part about it, is that you can edit EQ curves with any android phone/tablet. I still prefer the Pioneer DEX-P99RS for the ipod connectivity and EQ adjustability straight from the remote/unit, but the Mosconi can definitely get even more finer tuning than the Pioneer.

I have ran the ms-8 without an center channel with no problems at all. JBL recommends running one but it is not needed in any way to achieve great sound. The ms8 does flatten the eq'd signal you send it "high input" from a factory system, with the use of a aftermarket head unit it does allow for a flat signal to be used "no eq on head unit" You simply use the 21 band on the ms8 for your settings instead. Usually I have read the MS8 is the starting point for people and they move up to others.

OP I do recommend you reading into the mosconi before buying it as it can be a little overwhelming. I would recommend the audison for your first.
