Phone Control Switch Swap on Nismo
I have a 13' Nismo without navigation (wasn't worth $1400 )
I'm learning towards installing Kenwood DDX719 headunit. iPhone can plug into that headunit and display navigation on the screen. It also has Bluetooth for streaming music or handling phone calls. My question is....since my Nismo doesn't come with the little phone buttons (underneath volume control) on the steering controls, can the buttons be swapped easily? I'd love to be able to handle phone calls from the steering wheel (obviously not while tracking though.) Here's a part's diagram. I don't have the specific part number, but the cruise switch w/bluetooth, w/o navigation pkg seems to run for around $55: 2012 NISSAN 370Z Parts - AutoCenter.net

Because those buttons run all the way to the trunk and connect into the bose system, I would think it would not be a simple task at all. I could be wrong but I know when you want to use those buttons on an aftermarket unit, you have to go to the trunk and cut and bypass something. The instructions for this for the bose system is located on metra's website.
It would be easy to install the button, but you would need the wiring to go along with it as well and who knows what that entails.

I think too add 2 buttons its a little crazy to spend all that money on bose stuff just to bypass a wire and get it to work. Just how I look at it.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Do you really think that it would be that difficult? If the bluetooth module isn't even being used, then does it have to be installed at all? If we knew where the origin of the cable used for the bluetooth bypass was located, couldn't we do the bypass there and save a lot of work. The existing bypass method is probably more straightforward since the equipment is easily accessible from the hatch. Maybe a similar method could involve installing the buttons on the steering wheel, and then bypassing up near the steering wheel somewhere. I just don't know what the difference is in the wiring in this area when comparing a base/NISMO vs a touring.

I just performed this swap on my '09 base+sport (non nav, non bose). Took about 10mins to physically change the buttons. Crossed my fingers and went to reprogram my axxess aswc. Just doing the button remapping didn't work, although the two new buttons did change volume up and track down. So I did the full reprogram of the axxess (holding down the reset button for 10seconds and mapping each button. And now all of my buttons do what I assigned them to. Thanks to @diesel11679 for finding the parts diagram.

That's great! Are you saying that you just swapped the cruise switch and then programmed AXXESS, and that's it - call buttons now work? Were there any other wires to run? Did you go with the cruise switch w/o nav?
If so, than this is definitely on my "to do" list. Great job!!! |

Hi Guys - sorry to bump an old thread but there is a bit of a gap here for anyone else that wants to do this. I've been tasked with adding these buttons to a 2010 Nismo edition. I've found the part # for the buttons, it's : 25550-9N00B and if you do a google search, a plethora of vendors will show it for about $55.
What I'm curious about is how easy is it to swap in? The user CJeazy above makes it sound like it's a simple snap-in, but I know from experience (350z) to swap these buttons I had to remove the airbag with a torx wrench, remove the steering wheel, then swap out the buttons. Even then, the wiring wasn't in place. Has anyone else done this with a bit more info? Are the wires there and run all the way to the trunk? My intent is to connect it to the Axxes system for an aftermarket unit to control phone calls. Any information is much appreciated, or if you at least can find an existing topic, I've done countless searches. |

You should be able to find what you need in the Factory Service Manual. See link in my sig.
Edit: This is a great site but the search feature sucks (or maybe I just can't figure out how to use it effectively). I prefer going to Google and adding "site:the370z.com " to the front of my search string.

It would be nice if someone that's actually done this could chime in to save me hours of reading - i.e. if the harness cable exists or not between the front the the rear of the car, etc. Thanks again. |

It's not adding the buttons to the steering wheel that is the hard part, because those buttons go into the bose system in the trunk they run through some kind of harness that mutes the bose system and answers the phone. I do not see this as an easy task at all. Of course if we had the diagrams it might be easier to figure out
