Rear speakers; yes or no?

So i've gotten a couple opinions on this already.. but figured I should poke the forums and see what all of you think on the subject. Given the position of the 370Z's rear speakers and the depth allotted to them...

Do you feel that rear speakers are a good idea in the 370Z? Why .. or why not?

I kinda felt they were needed so I built a box and added 2 Polk 6x9's

The sound is MUCH more fuller and enjoyable ... M.02

Where did you put them? Are they basically in the same spot provided by the factory?

jayl 09-29-2012 09:32 PM

I added 3.5"s in the factory location provided and I really like them.

2010ZilverZ 09-29-2012 09:41 PM

You can only put shallow 3.5's ( unless ya wanna modify the opening's ) in there where the stock speakers should be ...

So I built a speaker box right behind the rear strut bar to house the 6x9's

Most will add a sub woofer but I'm not into that BOOM BOOM BOOM sound

Ahh, gotcha. Do they fire up or back?

I hadn't considered that.. I was going to do a sub.

What kind? How do you balance the sound between front and rear without having them blasting in your ear? =]

2010ZilverZ 09-29-2012 10:19 PM

I placed'M fire'N forward

I angled the top so if I choose I can always turn the box around so that they fire towards the rear but so far I like it the way they are

I am completely against rears, especially in the Z. Also OP please search the forum as there're plenty of threads asking about rear fill.

Sorry, I do have a habit of asking instead of searching...

An interesting idea. Have any pics?

To me with such a small interior, I would focus and spend on quality components on the front stage and the the low end first before spending money on the rears.

As I said in another thread
Honestly in top end cars there are no rear speakers because SQ "sound quality" is setup for optimal performance. I own a civic and I have taken the rear speakers out so that way I have no rear fill as they call it. If you listen to it for a few days you will get use to it and it will definitely sound better than 4 channels. Think of it this way artist record there music in 2 channel format so the optimum way to listen to it is threw 2 channels. My setup is going to be my fronts and a rear sub that's all. After thinking about it and listening to it it sounds way better. So in a nut shell do not get rear speakers or worry about it.

And from the 101 Thread

Rear Speakers
In top end cars there are no rear speakers because SQ "sound quality" is setup for optimal performance. In small cars such as the z it is even more unnecessary, you only have 2 people in the car and no rear seats. Rear speakers that close to the fronts will collide and cause the audio to sound multiplied. If you listen to it for a few days you will get use to it and it will definitely sound better than 4 channels. Think of it this way an artist records there music in 2 channel format so the optimum way to listen to it is threw 2 channels. It may sound a bit different at first but as I mentioned if you give it a few days it should grow on you. Either way save your money and invest it in better front speakers.
