My sub enclosure build!

2 Attachment(s)
First let me say thanks to CAS for their corner sub enclosure design. After researching a bit, I decided to try my hand at building my own sub enclosure. Well I have to say that it came out great. So before it was even done a friend posted another location using 2 8" subs instead of the one 10". So I'm at it again. The plans are to either keep the existing single 10 in the CAS inspired enclosure and change my crossovers to 3 way and run the 2 8's using mid bass. Or sell the 10" enclosure with the JL sub and just run the 2 8's as the LFE channel. The single box has just received 5 coats of clear and wet sanding and polishing to follow.

So the final shape of the inner shell is done. I played with the speaker angle until my eyes started to bleed and this is the finished spot. The face follows the angle of the strut tower and is just about flush (from cabin to hatch)as far as angle is concerned. Your thought are appreciated. :tiphat:

Just so happens there is. I had a bunch of time this weekend to get some work done. The passanger side is done and ready for body work. While I was waiting for resin to dry I had the oppurtunity to finish the corner unit I started. Here's some pictures, new unit

Looking at this picture, I'm rethinking the shape of the upper left hand corner. I'm thinking of carrying the line to the top of the strut.

If you can make it flush with the line on the strut, that would make for an excellent, integrated, almost-OEM look. Many kudos to you on this design. You should make more of them once you perfect it and sell them. You'd make a killing.

I would fill in the area just behind the passenger seat with a clean curve to the panel line then follow that all the way to the strut leave the part by the strut tower and it would look pretty clean i think wont let me upload my pic to show what i mean will try in the morning :shakes head: there we go better idea of what i mean

I had a chance to do a little work today. I sanded the flashing off the edges and fit the box in, I love the look and I've decided to stay with the original shape. I laid out a bunch of different tape lines following the strut tower edge to the top and the box started to get to big for the look I want and it was losing its curves (I like curves, as you can see from my corner unit!), the only way to get them back would be to raise the height of the speaker ring, that’s a no go for me.

Hows the build-up coming? both boxes built yet?

Between the weather not cooperating and the fact that my business has been a bit crazy lately, I really haven't any time to work on the second enclosures. I did manage to work on the first one, layered 6 coats of paint and 6 coats of clear, 4 light and 2 wet. In another 10 hours (waiting 48 total) I can begin the sanding and polishing. I also had the chance to install the terminal plate and the internal wire. Went with some Monster M series that I had laying around from my home system.

very cool, makes me want to try it! I would probably use the very rear corner by the tail light though.

In the first pictures posted, that's where that one goes. That was my first go at it, got so inspired that I decided to undertake this project. If it stops raining for a few minutes I will run out and set it in place for some pictures.

sweet, that looks awesome! I have the wicked audio system that fits over the spare so I cant do this, but it would be a fun project to try. +rep

tommyguns 10-04-2012 08:39 PM

Thank you. It's not that hard to do, it's the body work that can make or break the project. Back at you.

The bottoms are not flat so they kind of lock themselves in, I will be adding 3M tape on the back wall for added security. I don't see it needing any more then that.
