GoPro vs iPhone 4S?
So I'm just wondering, why aren't more people taking video with their iPhones? I've got an iPhone 4s and it seems to take pretty good video (720/1080), so I'm wondering why people aren't just using the iPhone for a gopro substitute. Wouldn't it work to just get a phone holder with a suction cup and stick it on the inside of the windshield? What's so much better about the gopro?

you can stick gopro pretty much anywhere, not just inside the vehicle and if it falls it doesn't shatter...

I take all my videos with my 4S...liked stated above mounting it is a pain!

Anything else besides that? I'm not gonna stick my iPhone outside of the car, so that shouldn't really be a problem.

Inside the car, a phone would be fine. The advantage of the go pro is you can mount it on the outside, which a lot of people do. You can get a lot of cool angles with the different places you can stick it. Also, I think the sound recording is better on the new gopros than a phone.

I mount my GoPro to the tow hook bracket and get a really low angle when hitting the canyons.

The sound is much better on a gopro. Also if I destroy my gopro I'm not without a phone :)

I haven't tried but I can only imagine the image stability being very shaky. Go pro is very smooth even while drifting because of many options for mounts. You would need a very solid mount to hold an iphone in place.

Cool cool, I was just curious. I found a RAM iPhone holder that looked pretty sturdy. But I wouldn't mind just having a gopro so that I didn't fill up my phone with video.

I brought a Optrix case for my 4s, comes with a case and mounting. I have not tried it yet, will be this weekend for Autocross. From the videos on there web site looks pretty good. The only problem is there is no quick release like the GoPro, they say its in the works.
Web site, take a look Home page |
I stick the iphone between the headrest and the seat, and push down until headrest clicks into place. super sturdy mount

I like the GoPro for its mounting capabilities and its sturdy case. I would hate to mount my phone and have it fly off the car.... |
I took this with my iphone3.
Zcon 2011 - Grand Prize of America track - YouTube The mount says its for 3 and 4, but the 4 wont mount to it. There will be a new track app coming out soon for the iphone that will have a track map and other cool stuff. The developer was beta testing it at Barber last month. |
That's not too bad

I love my GoPro, the coolest thing for me is that you can use it anywhere. I have a lot of videos that my and my friends take on the Z but specially on our Bikes. and also if you ever happen to get it wet you dont have to worry about it. It is kind of pricy, but its worth the money.

The waterproof factor is def a plus. An iPhone is far more expensive to replace if something happens. The GoPro also has a wide angle lens that captures a lot more than the iPhone. They have wide angle lens adaptors for the iPhone, but I haven't tried any.

contour HD ftw :)

pretty good for image.. the load sounds - not so much... |
Here's a shot with the GoPro I made a while back. Have since sold it though. Very good at stabilizing...the sound was kind of crappy, especially wind noise.
