I mean yeah if you want to customize the mounts themselves but bear in mind, you don't need a whole lot of sound for that tiny cabin.
Pretty sure you're still gonna have a problem with depth though wouldn't you?

Thats what those plastic spacers are for, it gives that speaker a little more room for the magnet and its depth.

Question, I am installing the same head unit in a base model 09 Z. Do I need an adapter plate for the dash? I see some people say no, some say yes, I am really confused. help?

If you're talking about the bose HU on the sport/touring, you shouldn't. It's a standard double DIN receiver. The nav unit is something separate though so...

If you are worried about any kind of gap around your new head unit yes you should use a new dash kit. Pioneers especially.
