However when you crank it up, it is clear and fairly punchy, with little or no distortion up to a pretty high volume.

So, I think if you listen to rap or other bass-heavy stuff you will be disappointed but if you are more into guitar-driven rock stuff it does pretty well.
I also fade to the rear two clicks and you thoughts echo mine exactly.

I disagree, dont confuse the bose setup found in the Z with what you can get in other lux cars. I had an 04 CTS with bose and it is literally like 10x better than what was put in the Z. I dont think bose has ever been a setup to make insane bass but to provide above average bass with crystal clear speakers. This goes for the same with my parents 04 Suburban, bass was more than enough but not an aftermarket bump, friends with expensive aftermarket systems always complimented the clearity.

What i think happened with the Z was in the process of Nissan making an affordable sports car they put the smallest sub and speakers they could get just so they could advertise bose instead of the correct but more expensive bose setup that fit the car. at medium volumes the bose in the Z you can already tell is stressing.

I think the Bose system in the Z sounds ok, must better than the base and looks nicely integrated in the dash. I always prefer spending money on performance first and don't have any real urges to change up the audio system, even though I know aftermarket setups will blow the Bose out of the water.

That said, it can get pretty loud with minimal distortion. There isn't much bass, mostly because the road noise and FI exhaust drown that out. Sitting with the car off allows the bass to be heard. It's all about what your priorities are I guess.

How much bass can we really get from two 4" subs. I like my bose, would i have gotten the touring JUST for the bose, of course not. It came with the car and is fine for the car.

I am fine with the bose it was more of the package deal for the touring that sold me on it. But i cant say i was not a little disappointed in the Bose coming from an 04 vehicle that had it and it was way better than the Z's.

This can even be agreed/disagreed on. I have even upgraded Mark Levinson systems in Lexus ISF's and other factory high end systems. With the proper aftermarket systems they can even surpass factory "premium" systems. That fact is that a audiophile is going to probably want to rip out any factory system no matter how many speakers or capabilities it has.

Oh im not. Bose is a crappy company. They are very good at marketing. Their sound is tweaked to weird levels to make people who are not knowledgeable about sound think they have something that is good, when its not.. Just try to get a spec on their speakers, they wont give them out, and for good reasons... save the money and buy something cheaper thats much better... If you google and read forums on AVS and such, you will see what I mean. Lots of information out there...

Maybe it gets a bad forum rant because those certain people can't afford it and therefore want to make everyone believe they have a quality system that they purchased at wal-mart or parted together from used craigslist gear.

I agree, but only partially. For the most part I think Bose is just a name with great marketing, kinda like Bud Light. But just like AB can, and does, make some good beer, Bose does make some good stuff. The good Bose stuff is crazy more expensive than the cost of something that's 99% as good.

haha, good way to stir the pot but no, thats not the case... Ive read about this stuff a lot but if you want a professional answer, seriously, go to AVS forum and do some research. You will see what I am talking about. Im not here to bash Bose, just passing along the information that I have learned about...

I like where your head is at but I still disagree lol. For anything that Bose sells, you can spend the same money and get something much better...

No, sir, your ears don't know what they are listening to. They have been fooled by marketing!

I'm just kidding... I do think it sounds pretty good.

The Bose isn't bad. Can you do better aftermarket for less money? Sure you can! But that goes without saying for almost any car stereo. They always charge you $600 for the "upgrade" that's like, a 30 watt 6" sub that sits under the front seat or something.
