yah, i recommend not doing this. anything that drain battery on these modern cars while parked is a bad idea, imho...
unless you run deep cycle battery and willing to monitor the charge/cca level often.

For lighting with small current draw, it should be safe enough to take it from the lighter plug. Best case is to run directly from the battery with proper fuse. Assuming you only want it on when you open the arm rest then install a pin switch which when the arm rest is raised, turns on the light. It would be a good idea to have an on/off switch for over ride. But to each his own, but running anything with the engine off for a long period of time will eventually drain the battery as Kenchan indicated. A single LED will take weeks if not months to fully drain a battery however. Contrary to what most people think, a car is not totally "off" when the key is removed. Ancillary systems are on all the time including (key sensor, clock, alarm, etc)

Stuff like led's and neon tubes are not going to be a large draw, I use to have a under glow kit on my civic years ago that I would leave on for hours with no problems. I agree with Zak, There are many places and ways to grab power for constant. A relay setup is recommended.

Run a fused wire from the battery through the firewall to your led's. That would be the simplest way to do it.

Behind the radio, you could use the 12v+ always on from that. Like others said, if you are just using LEDs, the current draw is tiny. Maybe a killswitch hidden somewhere if you decide to leave your car parked for many days?
