Inspired by high-end Audis, I am considering putting a wi-fi hotspot in my 370Z.
Anyone who has knowledge of doing this, please contact me either in this thread or by PM. Anyone interested in the same project, stay tuned. I am budgeting $450 for this. My first step is to research what is involved, to see if that price point can be obtained. If it's not realistic, I'm done. For starters, this is a good article, "Mobile Hotspots: Which Are Fastest, Most Reliable?" http://www.pcworld.com/article/20815..._reliable.html To be continued.... I work for a Wireless company and you could use a phone or a dedicated device to get wifi for your car. If you already have a handset that can support a hotspot then I would go that route. It will be cheaper in the long run and in most cases you can add or remove the feature as it need be. Either way there is going to be a monthly fee. Is your $450 for a year? Or just a one time expenses.

Thank you for the reply. To update my first post, I can get a phone that will function as a wifi spot for up to 5 other devices from Verizon for $90/month (phone included). At $1080/year, that's way beyond my planned budget.
I also briefly looked into setting up my own down-link. That seems impracticable and expensive, and very difficult in a mobile application. So that is the end of that. I appreciate your interest. |

Just some input- I was using the Virgin Mobile Mifi for awhile in my Z & around the house for awhile when I didnt have my internet setup. I believe the monthy cost was $30-50..
Not very cheap, but I don't know how often you need wifi access. If your a realtor or something I could see it being very useful while your out running around. |

do you have a droid phone or an iphone? if you have a droid, there is an app called FoxFi... it lets you activate your phones mobile hotspot without getting the extra charge from the service provider for using hotspot. So as long as you have unlimited data you can use your phone without them knowing its opened up as wifi hotspot. You can get it right out of the droid maket without having to hack your phone.

yea foxfi couldn't be easier to use. just took 30 seconds to setup a network name and password to keep it protected. it will kill your battery though so be sure you only use it for short bursts or if you have it plugged in
