DIY: Kenwood DNX6140 installed in my 370Z with Sirius and back up Cam (AK370Z)

You can not do that because the camera would be pointing UP and not the correct direction.

I guess I'm lost, he has the same mount as mine, when he mounts his like the one in the picture of the 370z, his picture is upside down. Wouldn't that mean the camera is upside down in the mount? taking of the four screws and twisting the camera 180 degrees inside the mount wouldn't just turn the picture over?

Postrin,
I didn't notice the screws last night when I installed it, but based on your pic I assume they are there. I'll try it tonight and let you know what happens. You didn't happen to get an instruction/user manual with the camera did you?

I also got official word back from Kenwood that their HU won't flip the image and that I need to install the camera correctly. I wish I thought of that.

Not all cameras have screws some the metal is just all one piece including the mount. That is what this camera is dose screws slow access into the camera. Now you MIGHT be able to take the inside guts of it out and rotate it. BUT be careful not to damage anything or pull any wires.

Someone at the sweatshop probably put your camera together upside down. Anyone else with the sunlight issue? Sorry no vid of it still but, been out of town and the z stuck in the garage with a new roof being put on the house.

no, no manual with mine, but it looks pretty straight forward, red is 12 volt switched, black is ground, and the RCA for video. when I test mine, the image is mirrored.

Sigur is probably right, it probably just got mounted upside down. The seller seems reasonable, I'm sure he'll replace it if you can't get it working.

Not sure what the first part means, I agree with the second part though, if it doesn't come apart easy, don't overdue it till you talk to the seller. I can;t imagine he'd want you to send the camera back to china for replacement, he'll probably just send another, but just in case, you don't want to destroy the one you have.

Ok, here's an update on the upsidedown camera...
I took out the 4 screws and was feel pretty foolish for not thinking of this myself. After pulling the 4 screws I found I couldn't get the cover to budge. I considered taking channel locks to the cover but decided against it. I then check it out and figured that I could get a correct view if I mount the camera on the vertical surface. I had to grind the some of the mounting bracket on both sides of the camera, but I eventually got it mounted. The picture looks good, but now I think the camera faces too far down and doesn't give me enough view behind me. At this point I will live with it as is until it breaks or someone steals it. It was only $31 (compared to folks trying to sell rear view cameras for $100-$200). Hopefully the seller will reply to my question and we can work something out.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

AK,
the picture in your post is the picture of the camera I purchased. If you install it upside down it will look exactly like your install. I guess that's the key..."installing it upside down". I'm a bit puzzled though since the camera referenced by "bpd138" shows it sitting point up like mine, but he also installed his "upside down".

I've sent a message to the seller to see what can be done as well as to Kenwood to see if they have fix. I was just hoping I was overlooking an obvious quick fix.

Thanks to the both of you for your help.
Lance do you have any picture of the camera? is the camera looks exactly like this?

Also, bpd used a different camera. Not like mine or yours.

Postrin, you have the exact same one as mine. But your (and mine) are not the same as this one. Therefore, we didn't have any problem.

Lance, please keep us posted. thanks

AK,
the camera you posted in your post which highlighted the mounting brackets is the one I purchased. Here is a picture of my install:
Rear Camera.JPG

I'll try to take a picture of the new install tomorrow.

As Sigur suggested, I think they installed the camera upside down in the housing.

I've done some searching in this thread, but didn't find a definitive answer.
Why do you need the antenna adapter? One post said that you need it because without you wouldn't get any stations. Is this true and if so, why.
I have a DNX8120 that I'm thinking of installing which I had in my 350. I just plugged the existing antenna connector into the HU and had no issues.
Does the stock 370 HU have some kind of booster built-in that the 8120 doesn't?

The 370z has a booster antenna built into the car. With the 350z the antenna was just exposed. You need an adapter for the booster to work and get power from the new receiver. Also it changes the plug to the one that is needed for the new aftermarket head unit. Without it you will not get any radio stations.
