The only odd thing I noticed is the mount that holds the stock radio - and that you have to re use and screwonto the aftermarket one - it is screwed on with TORX screws. I ended up using 7/64" allen wrench to take the screws out since I didn't have a TORX head screwdriver.
This surprise almost ruined me. I didn't have a set of Torx drivers so I tried my regular screwdriver. I managed to get all but one screw out, but the last one twisted the head of the screwdriver. Luckily a friend was able to bring his torx stuff by so I could finish it up. I took a ton of pictures with the intention of creating a guide since I felt that both of the existing guides were missing something. One of these days I'll get around to finishing it up.

The stereo also lists the steering controls as a feature.... do we need to buy additional gear to keep the steering controls, or does the stereo come with it? anyone here successfully retain the controls?

You have to buy the additional PAC-AUDIO steering wheel interface. Some of the members mentioned that the response was slower than the stock (on steering wheel) and they didn't like it. I am NOT used to steering wheel controls so, I never installed it.

Here's more info,

Steering Wheel Interface Application Guide and Instructions | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

Quote:
Current Information selected:
The information we have on a 2009 Nissan - 370Z , has been generated below.

1. Quick description before we start wiring the SWI-X .
The SWI-X 's wire color we are going to use is White. This is the White wire on the SWI-X , not the vehicle!
The other wires on the SWI-X , green, yellow, orange and blue wires are not used for your Nissan 370Z.

This leaves you with a Red, Black and two loop wires. These wires will be discussed down below.

2. Picture of the Nissan 370Z plug.
Connector picture is unavailable. Either we don't have a picture to show or we have to get the wire somewhere else and not at the factory radio harness.

3. Connecting the SWI-X 's steering wheel control input wire to vehicle plug.
# Connect the SWI-X 's White wire to PIN 16 (Blue) with a 150 ohm resistor, PIN 15 (Pink) with a 47 ohm resistor
Connect free ends of resistors to interface's White wire.
Ground the BROWN wire found in the same radio connector.

4. Connecting power and ground wires.
Black wire: Connect the SWI-X 's black wire to chassis ground. This is usually a black wire on the aftermarket wire kit.
Red wire: Connect the SWI-X 's red wire to a switched +12volt wire. This is usually a red wire on the aftermarket wire kit.

5. Instructions for cutting or not cutting loop wires.
Step A: The purple loop wire does not need to be cut.
Step B: The brown loop wire does not need to be cut.

6. Programming the SWI-X with a version number and 'IR' Mode.
The SWI-X has to be programmed for version # 3 and set for 'Standard IR' Mode.
1. Press and hold the Program Button on the SWI-X while turning on the vehicle to the accessory position. Both LED's will turn on.
2. Release the Program Button and both LED's will turn off and then they will turn on for 3 seconds. Wait for 3 seconds and both LED's will turn off.
3. Press the Program Button 3 times. Each time you press and release the Program Button, both LED's will turn on and off. Once you press the Program Button 3 times, wait for 3 seconds. The right LED will flash 3 times indicating it is programmed for version 3. If it flashes the wrong version number, you will have to start over at step 1 above in this section. Turn the key off.
4. Once you have programmed the correct version number, you will not have to do these steps again. If you need to reprogram the steering wheel control and wireless remote functions, you can go directly to the next section.

7. Programming the SWI-X to learn steering wheel controls and wireless remote functions.
1. Turn the key to the accessory position (you do not need to hold the Program Button at this time). The right LED will flash 3 times. This indicates it is programmed for version 3.
2. Press the Program Button until the LEFT LED turns on, then release the Program Button (This will erase all previous learned steering wheel controls and wireless remote functions). The SWI-X is now ready to learn a command from the steering wheel.
3. Press the Volume UP button on the steering wheel and hold the button. Wait until the LEFT LED turns off before you release the Program Button. Note: Please do not press and release the steering wheel button quickly! If you do not press any buttons on the steering wheel, the SWI-X will time out after 7 seconds, which will turn off the LEFT LED and end programming. If you missed some buttons, you will have to start all over and program from the first button. If the LEFT LED turns off and goes to the right LED without pressing the steering wheel buttons, then there is a wiring issue.
4. The right LED will turn on at this time, waiting to learn from the wireless remote. Note: You do not have a timeout period when the RIGHT LED is on. You can take your time here. However, make sure there is no fluorescent lights or sunlight in sight of the SWI-X other wise the RIGHT LED will turn off and go to the LEFT LED.
5. Press and hold the wireless remote Volume UP button while pointing the remote towards the SWI-X 's IR input. Wait until the RIGHT LED turns off before you release the button.
6. The LEFT LED will turn on.
7. From here you will do steps 3 through 6 again for each additional button to be programmed. So the next steering wheel button should be Volume DOWN and the wireless remote Volume DOWN. Note: The steering wheel buttons can be assigned any wireless remote function. So if you have for example a Program Button on the steering wheel, you can program it a 'Mute' function from the wireless remote.
8. Once you finish programming the steering wheel control buttons and wireless remote functions, the LEFT LED should be on. Wait for 7 seconds and both LEDS will flash 3 times. This indicates that the SWI-X has exited programming. The SWI-X 's RIGHT LED will flash 3 times and will be in 'Run Mode'.

8. Testing the SWI-X .
1.

Hold or tape the Infrared LED (blue LED on black wire) to a surface so it is facing towards the aftermarket stereo. It must have a clear line of sight to the stereo. Try to minimize the angle as much as possible.

The best place to mount the LED: In the center console or overhead console (extending the LED wire may be required) and as far back as possible. Behind the domelight cover.
Bad places to mount the infrared LED: Do not mount the LED in stereo installation kit. Do not place LED where cups or other articles will block it. If at all possible, try not to mount where sunlight may shine on LED.
2. With the vehicle on, press a steering wheel button to control the stereo. The SWI-X should control the aftermarket stereo with what ever function you taught it. Test all other buttons.
3. If you have on or two buttons that do not work but the others do work, then there was a programming error. Please reprogram the SWI-X (STep 7 in previous section) until all buttons work.
4. Once all the buttons work correctly, you may permanently install the LED.
5. The black LED bezel is designed to be mounted from the front of the surface you are mounting the LED. The LED snaps in from behind, into the mounting bezel. Carefully remove the bezel form the LED and measure the diameter of it. Drill a hole the same diameter as the bezel into the mounting surface ( be careful that you don't drill a hole too big or the bezel will not stay in place). Feed the LED from behind through the hole and snap bezel onto LED. Snap the bezel into the hole. Be sure to run the LED wire to the mounting location without it interfering with final dash/panel assembly.
6. That's it! Enjoy!

Q: Can you elaborate on how the steering wheel controls are not as good as the stock radio?

White370Z: The PAC has a time delay, which makes you think it didn’t work, then you hit it again and it works twice. I’m getting better with the timing of how and when to hit the buttons, but it is a steep learning curve. Also my favorite thing about to stock set up was being able to flip though my radio presets. So far, me and the installer who I found to be very knowledgeable have only been able to get the steering control to seek, but not toggle thought the presets, As I would like. This is the one thing I hope a call to PAC will fix. If anyone has been able to this with their PAC please let me know.

AK, I'm doing my install today and notices that the rear view cam has a little wire poking out the yellow RCA cable. Where did you hook that up? I have the same camera as you and noinstructions.
Lastly, the power... Did you run it to the stereo or to the fuse box?
Thanks,

I taped into the accessory wire going to the head unit "the red one" for power for the rear camera. I am not sure what you are asking for the yellow wire. Not to be a jerk or anything but I did the install so you should probably ask me. I would be more than happy to help you.

There is a plastic tube on the let side and just pull the wires out there and tap into the orange wire that will be what you need. I used a sharp knife and sliced all the insulation off all the way around the wire than wrapped the new wire around it and soldered it on or you can just wrap electrical tape around it or both.

Sorry my friend. I didn't know you were available.
I hope you don't mind that I am doing this here and not pm.. I figured other could benefit too.
The video RCA that came with tr camera has a little wire coming out of it.. Kinda like a ground.. So I was wondering if you grounded that yellow RCA too.

And for the reverse... You are saying to route the reverse wire coming from the stereo plug (the long purple and white) to the left or driver side and then tap it to an orange wire? Where isthat orange wire you speak of?
Thanks again man.

Do you see those wires sticking out all different colors look in there and tap your purple wire into that one. I am not sure about the wire you are talking about for the Yellow plug it could be a ground or a integrated power wire but I am not sure I would need a pic of 2. If you are talking about the 3 wires coming out of the camera. the yellow plug the black one and the red the black you ground the red gets ran up front to get power from the red wire I was telling you about and the yellow is the signal wire.

Hmm I would ignore that red wire coming out of the cable. Never seen it before and can not think what you would need it for. You would not want to ground it I know that much.

Excellent! Will do.
Lastly, there is another long wire on the harness from the stereo ad it's labeled PRK SW.. Did you use that? If so, where did it go?
Thanks electronics master!

Ground it to your ground wire that will let you watch movies and enter stuff into the nav while driving. You just didn't hear that from me. LOL

I finished my install today and I placed my camera on the right side... very close to the center though.
The install was easy, but very time consumant ( about 7 hours)

many thanks to BigAdiofan. Without him advise I would still be trying to figure this out.

I was not able to set the camera for reverse though. I tap on to the orange wire, but no go. It works when holding the Camera button down though..

oh yeah.. word to the wise ( use masking tape around your shifter and on all panels that you're going to be working around since they easily scratch.

The stereo really make the difference on the car!

Go into your head unit setting some were you will find a setting saying "rear camera interrupt" or something like that enable it and it should work when you put it into revers.
