Is there anyway to bypass the 255 file limit imposed on headunits with the USB input?

I use my phone to listen to music through the USB output, but I noticed my Kenwood 9990 will only recognize 255 files per folder. I have all my music

No- if the limit is 255, it's because of the particular filesystem that unit is running (8 bit, 16 bit, etc). It's a hard limitation.

why don't you separate your music into genre?

rock, pop, hip-hop/rap, rnb, etc.

unless you're one of those douche who listens to 1 type of music.

I do listen to different genres, seperating the files into multiple folders is no problem. Now I am running into a different issue. I wanted to get the best sound quality possible, but it appears this headunit does not support flac files. Would I have to convert them to wav?

most headunits don't support flac. it probably won't play back any type of uncompressed file. IMO, rip a few songs @ 320kbps/44.1khz stereo as mp3s and see how they sound.

When I used to run a Pioneer head unit, I just organized my music in folders like:

Artist->Album->Song

Much nicer than just piling all the music on there. If you download Mediamonkey, you an set it to auto organize your music for you.

My recommendation would be get a ipod with a broken screen off ebay, load up all your music throw it in the glove box and forget about it. I have almost my entire library on my 160GB and no problems. I would convert flac to apple lossless and your head unit will be able to play them all.

Just a thought.

Well today my headunit died. I just get an endless loop when its attempting to boot up. I browsed the Kenwood forums and several other owners of the 9990HD have had the same issue. I really hope Kenwood will provide a warranty, I bought it on eBay.
