This is an old post but I figure someone else wants to know how a powered subwoofer would sound with the Bose system.
I didn't go with the Kenwood subwoofer. Instead, I went with the JL Audio ACP108LG-W3v3 8in powered subwoofer. This 8in woofer will add a lot more bass to the Bose system, but do not expect to win any bass contest. The best way to explain the bass is to imagine the bass from the Bose system while the car is stationary and the engine is off. Now, amplify that bass to where you can still hear it while driving. That's the amount of bass you will get from this subwoofer.
JL Audio also has a 10in and 12in powered subwoofer in sealed and ported options. I would think the 10in would produce bass that is comparable to a normal 10in woofer. I'm happy with the 8in for the time being. I may try the 10in or 12in later on.
