mp3 player sound quality help

Hello. I was planning on getting an iPod Touch to play thru my HU in my car. As I was looking into them, I found that they are rated really low in sound quality. I found that there is a Cowon J3 player that is much higher rated.

My question is: is there going to be anything noticable in the Touch playing Apple lossless files and the Cowon playing FLAC files in regards to sound quality in my car? Or is this more for high-end home systems and headphones that you will be able to hear any differences.

It depends on what your using to send the audio out. If your using your headphone jack it is not really going to help you either way.

If your going through the LOC of the ipod and letting the head unit amplify it than yes it will make a difference. Flac and lossless are about the same in quality overall.

Thanks Big! The reviews that I read were comparing them with headphones, and my HU gets a 3.5mm headphone jack from the player to rca to hook them up thru the cd changer control wire of the HU. My HU does not have a built in amp, so Im not sure if that set up means I am getting a better signal from the player or not.

Are you running it off a stock head unit and speakers?

No. I have an Alpine CDA-7995 HU, going to a JL 300/4. Speakers are Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 (6 1/2" components)

Used the iPod cable! I find it better than the headphone jack and WAY better than the blutooth. Just my

I wish I could but its an older HU. Unless theres an ipod cable to 3.5mm adapter of some sort, the headphone jack is my only choice.

What's LOC? is that the best way to play music from iPod?

What I meant was LOD line output doc connectors. When using the conector on the bottom of the ipod your bypassing the low quality amplifier and sending a low level signal to your head unit to be amplified.

Got it, is that the best method to get the highest audio quality from the iPod?

Yes, if you want the best over all go with cd's.
