Car Speed Signal Input ? (Enter bigaudiofanat)
 

I did a quick search but couldn't find the definite answer to this one. I purchased the Pioneer Avic x940bt and I'm getting ready to wire it up. I'll be doing the "mute" pin/parking brake bypass, but I was wondering if I use the "car speed signal input" wire on the pioneer harness if it will negate the bypass and not let me plug in a nav spot while driving? I've heard this wire gives more accurate results in using the GPS. Will I be able to operate the gps while driving if I use this wire? If it will not affect the bypass I'd like to use it, but just not sure where it goes? Any help would be appreciated!

I just installed a nav. head unit and added a switch to the speed sensing wire. That way during normal driving I can have the more accurate GPS, but if I want to input an address I can flip the switch and now it thinks I've stopped. Works great. I cut a little hole under the plastic piece under the steering wheel and put a $4 switch in there. You can't see it, but I know where it is.

I'm not sure about the Pioneer units, but to bypass the speed deelio on the Kenwoods, you just hook the parking brake wire to ground and Voila!

I have a x940bt, bigaudiofanet help me with my wiring, the mute pin bypass worked great. I did not use the speed wire, the gps seem to be working alright. However I am at a small town, there are usually directly view to the sky. check out avic411.com as well, great site for pioneer head units. There are a few discussion on the speed wire as well.

I have an Avic F700bt with the bypass. The speed sense wire on the harness is strictly used for what Pioneer calls dead reckoning. The headunit uses the signal from the speed sense wire plus the gyroscope to attempt to keep track of your position when you lose GPS signal. For example when you go into a tunnel or a parking garage. Truth be told, it doesn't work too well in a parking garage after you're gone up a few floors. The gyroscope just thinks you're going in circles. :rolleyes:

Thanks for all the input! I did not end up using the wire...so far loving the unit. I'll probably have to go back in though to wire up the steering wheel controls.
