Just Want Some Bottom End
I have a 2012 Touring/Sport Coupe and would like to merely boost the bottom end. I read a fair amount in this section and if I understand it right the Bose system feeding the subwoofers can be "interrupted" and an amp added with a new subwoofer.
What kind of subwoofer will do, given that I'm not trying to go all out or anything like that? The shop suggested an 8" as a minimum. They would build a fiberglass enclosure that would tuck it away in the left rear of the hatch area and be moveable when getting to the spare, etc. I was hoping to have something that would replace the "over the spare" Bose system without having to give up other interior room. Are there other suggestions/better options? About what should I expect to pay for this? |

I put two 6" JL Audio speakers right behind both seats w/o sacrificing any trunk space. You could also go with two 8" JL Aduio speakers as well instead of the two 6".

If you;'re reasonable comfortable with a jig saw, or preferably a router, you can make a sub enclosure out of MDF rings to fit over the spare tire for a true stealth enclosure. Your choice in subs are limited in that the subwoofer needs to have a mounting depth of 3.25 inches. Many people who have done this ended up using a Pioneer SW-251 10" as did I initially but I replaced my Pioneer with an Alpine SWR-T10 (10") to improve the sq.
I have the measurements for each ring for the enclosure that fits the touring sport/Nismo. Be aware that the volume of the enclosure probably cannot/will not exceed .44 cubic feet which also affects subwoofer selection. Any questions, just ask. Bill |

If you want just a little low end kenwood makes a stealth powered amp that you may find helpful.

I'm in the same boat, and still can't figure out what would be best. The Wicked CAS box would be nice, but it only comes in 13" woofer version for the sport model. I really don't want something that big, plus it isn't inexpensive.
A standard woofer box is too big, and takes up way too much room. "Good"Powered woofers still don't really fit anywhere for me, and some people say they don't add much. Bazookas that fit in the back in the "foam" area are only 6.5" and are supposed to sound "boomy". The Sound Ordnance 8" powered sub looks promising, but I don't see how it would fit behind my seat, I'm just too tall. The Kenwood pwered sub is only 5.7", has mixed reviews and may not fit anywhere. I would love to make a custom, over-the-spare box, but I don't have the equipment. IT would be interesting to see if any of the 8" powered subs would fit securely over the spare. The shelf speakers MacLean has look promising, though not cheap. |

I appreciate all the input.
Too bad Nissan didn't specify to Bose that the subwoofer setup they had do a little better job; doesn't seem like it would have been that difficult. Not sure what I"ll do yet but still investigating. |
