15" subwoofer?

Was wondering if anyone has put a 15" subwoofer in a 370z before. Did tons of looking and found natta!

bigaudiofanat 05-16-2012 07:03 AM

I don't think someone has, if your looking for bass for your rock music I would go with a single 12, as 15's can be sloppy in producing solid bass notes like drums. Also have you heard a 12 in a z? It is seriously loud!

370ZilverZ 05-16-2012 07:36 AM

My JL Audio 10W7 in a Zenclosure is seriously loud driven by a JL Audio 750.1 amp. A 12 would be awesome, but a 15 would be insane IMO!

+1......... :iagree: I have two 6'' JL Audio (6W3's) SW & they sound really good. In my personal opinion I believe the 15'' would be over killed. On top of that you are driving a sports car.

90 ST 05-16-2012 10:38 AM

i have to agree a 15 would be too much in a Z a good 12 or a couple 10's is more then enough, BUT if you do want more with out sloppy look at a Boston Acoustic SPG-555. you will need some serious power on it, but...so worth it, i was on the fence with one of these, but the install wasn't going to work for me and what i need for space. went with 2 G3-10's from BA instead.

vermithrax 05-16-2012 10:46 AM

15? You must hate your hearing.

vividracing 05-16-2012 01:19 PM

A 15 in a Z is bonkers. If you're into rap, or just want the loudest SPL system then go for it. Otherwise, go with a smaller woofer.

I had 2 15s in my Camry right after high school. Literally made a girl vomit from the bass once.

Jasonle 05-16-2012 01:22 PM

I have a 12" JL and its perfect!

Vertigo 05-16-2012 02:38 PM

I had 2 15s (Eclipse DVC) in a Prelude a decade ago - and that was insane. I can only imagine it in a 370.

Bonezzzy 05-16-2012 03:27 PM

Ditto on what bigaudiofanat said...... However.... If u are, u might as well go for an 18" sub and do the unexpected... Be a hero!!!!!

Vertigo 05-16-2012 03:44 PM

+1........ I had 2 Rockford Fosgate DVC 15's with a 1k watt mono amp & this was 15yrs ago. I will not go back to that again & I had that in a truck. I probably wouldn't go any more than 2 JL 12's, but that might be a little over kill. You have to think we are in a sports car that is very compact inside. I have 2 JL 6's & it sounds awesome & each one is right behind the seat. You could also fit a JL 8'' in each spot as well. At the end of the day it is your money & your car.

Vertigo 05-16-2012 05:31 PM

I have 2 10s (JL W3v3) in my R32 now and it's loud as hell.
Still figuring out what I'm doing for my Z.

Told you they were going to be loud!!!

JrumMusic 05-16-2012 09:04 PM

My hearing has been gone since i was 18 when i had 4 15"s in my blazer haha. But Im a music producer, so i love to reference my mixes in the studio, iphone, car etc... I currently have a single RE Audio SXX10" dual 2 ohm wired to 1 ohm load at 1k RMS in it now and its super loud!!! But the bass isnt as loud as i want it 2 be. I was wondering how a box would be built to accommodating the woofer depth of a 15" sub.

KindBuddy 06-06-2012 06:19 AM

Since I already have 15's. Im going to be using just one in the z in a removable box, but on top of the spare tire section. I was trying to find others who have done this but I also found nothing. If I do it soon, Ill let you know how much airspace, etc. there is to be had. Everyone says it's crazy, but so is buying a two seater with no backseats. I love extreme.

who said anything about losing hearing? manning up is losing hearing? wow.....not even sure what to say to that. it was a show vehicle. he should do what he likes and what he thinks he will enjoy. if he wants to do a 15" then he should. if he wants to do an 8" bazooka, he should do that.

i think its funny how you act like you are the end all be all for car audio, and everyone else that has an opinion that is not the same as you is somehow below you. and yes i do have a background in car audio, and am not just someone talking out of their ***. i went to mobile dynamics in tempe, az and have worked at high end shops around the valley over the last 15 years like az auto werks, unique audio, etc.

I agree if thats what he wants go for it, however people think thats way to much for a Z including me. If he wants a SQL setup go for it, competition is great, just I go for SQ competitions myself. Never understood the whole bass thing.

Were you preparing to build your own woofer?

That's like asking me to sell my first born son. I've been to hell and back with these subs and there's no way I'd sell them. I've had them in an s10, acura legend and my audi s4. I suppose my 500 horse s4 is too much as well. Like i said, I like extreme because everything else is mediocre in my opinion. Just because I have 500 horsepower doesn't mean I haul *** everywhere I go. Same with my stereo system, just because I have had 15's and more than 4,000 watts doesnt mean I would turn it up all the way at any time. It's just nice to know I have it.

RonRizz 06-10-2012 04:01 AM

I saw a Z at the SLAPshow Nationals in 2005 with a 15 in it. It was definitely a tight squeeze!!! lol

There's no room for a 15 IMO I have a digital designs 2512 and it sounds awesome

You obviously didn't measure or try. You can fit a removable box with a sealed 15 facing frontward. I come up with around 2 cubes.

And props on the digital designs sub! I couldnt afford a 9515, so I went with Treo since my local shop hooked me up.
