I hope you're correct but I had Nissan put an entirely new OEM head unit in and it behaved the exact same way.

mine did it from the first day i owned it. i literally have only tried to use to knob maybe 3 times in the last 3 years.

all 3 times were the day before i took it in when my steering wheel buttons went out due to a bad clock spring in my sterring wheel/column. lol

my suggestion let it go and use the steering controls :tiphat:

Guys, just get something like Cramolin and pull the knob off and spray the cleaner into the body of the control, and rotate rapidly. The encoders are just dirty from oxidation. I've cleaned mine and they work perfectly now. All 4 were flaky when turned.

Anyone else try this yet? Mine does the same thing. Hate it cuz takes forever to lower the sound. I have to get used to the steering controls.

mine is a 10' and it not only does this for the volume but also for the AC temp and fan speed. I have the factory nav

I just had to rebuild the "clicker" on off power switch in my 2009 Navi radio. What a PITA to get it all done.

I'm having this same problem with my 2009. It doesn't just affect the stereo, though. It also affects the climate control knobs. Has anyone come up with a solution? My car only had 30K miles on it and this is inexcusable. Should be a recall.

Fountainhead 02-27-2018 02:30 PM

The controls oxidize and the encoders read intermittently. I used to clean mine as mentioned in my earlier post now I just spin them a bit before they track again. If we can't get a recall for a potential deadly CSC failure at highway speed we sure as hell won't get one for an intermittent volume / HVAC controls.

"Noisy" controls are nearly always an oxidation (or dirt) problem (see Fountainhead's comments above).

Spray a liberal amount of contact cleaner into the body of the control and spin the shaft/knob back and forth 5-6 times. Let contact cleaner evaporate and retry control. Repeat until "noise" disappears. If not fixed after the third spraying, you may have a different problem.

You now have clean contacts but they are dry and will wear out sooner. Not a big deal for most consumer controls so you can skip this step, if you want. Squirt the smallest amount you can manage of a dry lube (eg, silicone spray) into the body of the control and give the shaft/knob a few twists. Don't use graphite as it is conductive.

I use Cramolin Red which has a lube but it's not the same lube as the manuf put in there originally. Hopefully the solvent won't wash out the grease or at least will supplant it.
We used to clean faders and rotary pots on mixers and pray the big Alps sliders would show some benefit without having to replace them. The worst thing you could use would be "Tuner Cleaner" shudder.

Hosa (CAIG) DeOxit is the absolute cure.

All 4 knobs of the Navi system Bose pull right off with very very little effort required. Spray the DeOxit into the area (have a towel around to absorb liquid run off) and start twisting the pins that hold the knobs to work all of the cleaner inside. Twist at least 10 seconds per knob.

All 4 controls are now working 100%.

I had the stereo replaced under warranty but the new one behaves the same way.

This suddenly seems like a very common problem. Is this for the base unit as well or bose unit only?

i have a roadster sport and still have the same problem. Mine does have the navigation.
