newbie in need of sound system help

This is my second car ever and my first car had a Mark Levinson system, so this stock Z sound system is really lacking compared to what I'm used to. Now I'm trying to get myself set up with a quality sound system, nothing too fancy or expensive but nothing cheap either. I'm thinking of just replacing the 4 stock speakers and adding a dual subwoofer unit. I'm fine with just anchoring a subwoofer unit somewhere instead of hiding it away.

Already bought a head unit and have about 1200 bucks left in my budget, though I'm trying to save as much money as possible for my supercharger fund :D . I listen to a lot of dubstep, electrohouse, and drum and bass so I'm going to need a pretty powerful subwoofer that can hit low frequencies. Also like my music LOUD.

Now here's the part where I need help. Due to personal preference I'd much rather buy all the equipment myself and have someone install it, but I don't really know what to get. I'm leaning towards this subwoofer because of good reviews and a good price, but I have no idea what amp or speakers to get. A friend who "seems" like he knows what he's talking about told me to get that sub with a 2-channel 1000watt amp and then 4 400watt speakers with a 4-channel 1600watt amp. Would this work? And what would be some good brands for my budget?

Please search the forums as there are plenty of threads asking about speakers, subs and what system to get.
