How much did you spend on your system?

I'm curious on the price range other people have been paying for sound systems. If there's a thread like this one already created please redirect me. Otherwise, post what you had done and how much you spent.

BigNate 04-04-2012 10:25 PM

Not much
Bitone
Hertz hv165xl
Hertz Ml 2800
Audison AV 5.1k
8w7
Significant amount of hushmat and hushliner
Wire was all JL wire leftover from other cars
Stinger RCAs that were also leftovers.

All in a car my wife drives more than me

Polymorphic 04-04-2012 11:42 PM

Nice guys, Wow I was quoted $2600 today for JL speakers/tweeters rear speakers, 2 channel amp for 8" sub with a custom sub box to fit into the back pocket of the Z. I thought that was a lot, but no where near 7k.

Bonezzzy 04-05-2012 06:05 AM

You can save a lot of $$$ if you buy parts online instead of paying shop prices...

Most shops will not like installing stuff you brought to them.

Plus stuff like mine you do not want to skim an price and get burned on the warranty.

i only spent about $700

2yrs ago i bought the 3100DVD for like 400 including harness and PAC.
+ rear view camera for 180-200.
+ dynamat trunk floor for like 80-100.
+ usb drive for like 20-25.

if i ever decide to swap out the HU i will do the front polk components as well.

Armhunter 04-05-2012 10:41 AM

I just started. I just bought the Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH

It cost me $1300 Installed.

I plan on swapping out all the speakers and adding an amp and woofer in place of the spare tire.

My_third_Z 04-05-2012 10:50 AM

Victory is mine! I'm doing all the fabrication and installation, so that will save me $2-3k at least. Equipment and materials is north of $9k at the moment.

Baconboy 04-05-2012 11:44 AM

I'm trying not to count it.

I dropped in on Wicked CAS this week to pick up the Kenwood 9990 that he offered the pre-order deal for the members. While I was there I got some Hertz speakers and a JL 900/5 amp. A few hours later the Wicked CAS Magic box w/ 13.5" sub went for sale on our classifieds so I had to get that. Dynamat is on order, and I need some quality wires too. Then maybe a camera..

I wanted to spend 1K (haha), but It's going to be more like 3-4k.

I agree with resisting the tempatation to buy online. It's worth a couple extra bucks to get the warrantee, service and some professional advice. Wicked CAS was the real deal.

I hope so. I'm slowly chipping away at it. The fabrication takes forever, and we're shorthanded at work so I've been working extra hours. I will update my thread soon with some new pictures. Maybe tonight if I get a bunch done today.

You mean like demo videos? Wouldn't work well as each persons mic is different and most can not pick up on recording good sound.

2017370Z 03-27-2016 07:41 PM

Pioneer 4200nex w/amp
Alpine door speakers
10" Kicker sub w/amp
$1777 installed... I do not have the capability or desire to install this stuff myself.

kenchan 03-28-2016 10:02 AM

since post #15, i spent another $300 on the AVH4500BT a few yrs back which is in my car right now. real happy with the HU, but i might do one more swap with a CarPlay HU before im done with the Z. :D

YzGyz 03-28-2016 01:13 PM

I cheaped out on my current system. I'm only around $2 in parts, wires components, ect.

Mix of Kenwood HU
Alpine sub woofer
Focal drivers
cheap a but great bang for buck Soundstream amps but I plan to upgrade sometime. IDK when but I will.

I made some things and installed them myself.

Sean1125R 03-30-2016 02:02 PM

Wicked CAS 370Z Stealth Magic Box Subwoofer Enclosure Sub Box
JL 13TW5 Sub
JL XD600 Watt Amp
JL 4 Gauge Amp Kit
Plus installation and parts came out to $1333

Wicked C.A.S. was great to work with and I got all the parts through them in February when they were doing free shipping. They also give military discounts so I saved another $75 on top. Had it installed at Audio One in Newport News where they have never given me any grief about installing hardware not bought at the shop, great group of guys.

CM370z 04-02-2016 12:01 AM

Pioneer AVH-x2700bs headunit
Kicker 12" subwoofer in custom enclosure
Polk Audio db6501 speakers and tweeters
JBL marine 4 channel amplifier

Everything installed was about $1000
Tuned it myself and sounds great

DeliriousClam 04-02-2016 06:51 PM

Too much. Swapped everything out at least three times before I found a system I liked.

GaleForce 04-02-2016 07:44 PM

Here's part of my system...

So whats the hardest hitting 10" sub on the market?
I kept it modest with my sub as I'm not trying to be heard from blocks away or trying to set off any car alarms, but I'd be curious to see what the difference would be with just a Sub swap in my current set up which was only $70 at the time compared to one that's in the $300 range. Anyone do this or have similar experience?

90 ST 04-03-2016 05:03 PM

If space is a problem the new-ish T1S from Rockford is a sweet little sub...

YzGyz 04-03-2016 07:06 PM

Would I personally spend $6k on a car system now a days? No I would not. I'd spend $3k yes. Is the $7k a better sounding system? ? Yes, but just not worth it to me. Like most things, once you reach a certain point, you get a diminishing return the higher up you go. For instance a $3k system will sound really nice if properly put together. A $$7k system will will sound noticeable better but will it be 2x better sounding? No.. maybe just 1.25x better.. is that .25% better sound worth $4k extra?? Not to me when the $3k one will sound super nice already. If you think about it, it's like than slapping on a turbo kit. 15k and you gO from 280rwhp tO 500 rwh. Then you can build the block, bigger fuel pump, bigger injector and you get 700rwhp for $25k or something like that. Do you REALLY need 700 when 500 kicks Butt all day long?? No, but it sure is nice. However, nobody except you will know your sound system cost $7k and not $3k.. imo and ime, you can't tell that the most expensive system sounds better unless you are side by side to a $3k system.

Edit: As you can see from the above example, an audio system on the high end is even a worst investment than boost. At least with boost, you don't really get much of a diminishing return,at least not till you get closer to 1k rwhp. And you can actually feel the big difference when you press the pedal.
