Steering Wheel control problem after new install
First off, I just wanted to say that the resources on here are great. I was able to install my system last weekend with almost no problems.
I installed a Kenwood DNX6990HD and Metra Axxess ASWC. I've got the Metra manually programmed and working fine. The problem I'm seeing is that it will randomly send commands to the head unit. It seems like it is sending whatever the last command I use was. For example: Listening to my iPod. I push the button mapped to Att. A few minutes later it will send that command to the head unit on it's own. Later I push the button mapped to skip back. A few minutes later it sends that command on it's own. Because it's intermittent, it's hard to pin down exactly what's happening. I will probably try pulling the controller and updating it but I'm hoping someone here has seen this problem before. |

It may be that your trying to use the buttons for something other than what it was setup to do?
That would be my guess or you have a bad module.

Either your aswc is faulty or poorly grounded. Or i know in some of the kenwoods require a resistor be inline during programming the radio is it possible that resistor was left inline.
Because the 370z is a resistance based SWC system it does not matter what you use each button for the resistance it only used to tell one button from another not what each button should be doing.

It does seem like something that would happen with a bad ground but I'm pretty confident in the grounding. I grounded both the chassis and Metra side grounds through individual wires and lugs down to the shifter bolts. All connections are soldered and heatshrinked.
Here's the button setup: Button *** Function Seek + *** Volume + Seek - *** Volume - Source *** Att (mute) Volume + *** Seek + Volume - *** Seek - It's a base, non-Bose car. The thing that seems strange is that all of the controls work as I set them up to. My hope is that an update to the module will help. If not, I'm thinking bad module. Any other suggestions? |

Ya the metra does not use any resistors at all the pac is the one that you would need them. The spot you used for grounding is where I ground most head units in z's. So I would say it is time to get a replacement.

they are not in the kit but certain kenwood units require a 10k-12k ohm resistor in line with the brown wire on the 3.5mm adapter at programming but you need to remove it after programming. Leaving them in after programming has been known to cause issues.
