Steering Wheel control problem after new install

First off, I just wanted to say that the resources on here are great. I was able to install my system last weekend with almost no problems.

I installed a Kenwood DNX6990HD and Metra Axxess ASWC. I've got the Metra manually programmed and working fine. The problem I'm seeing is that it will randomly send commands to the head unit. It seems like it is sending whatever the last command I use was.

For example:
Listening to my iPod. I push the button mapped to Att. A few minutes later it will send that command to the head unit on it's own. Later I push the button mapped to skip back. A few minutes later it sends that command on it's own.

Because it's intermittent, it's hard to pin down exactly what's happening. I will probably try pulling the controller and updating it but I'm hoping someone here has seen this problem before.
