Pioneer vs. Kenwood (Install, iPod & Fitment Only)
I don't want to start another Pioneer vs. Kenwood war (I've seen a lot in my searching).
Looking to get an in-dash DVD player and add XM radio. I don't need anything super high end but I want a nice unit. 1. Which fits better? I would prefer to not use aftermarket bezels and such. I'm leaning towards the Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD. 2. Do either (or both) of these fit using the OEM brackets and bolts? I don't want to use one of those universal sleeve things. Too flimsy. 3. I read a little about how Kenwood can display the GPS app from iPod. Does this sort of make it a poor man's in-dash GPS? How does it work? If anyone has installed pics that would be great. Thank you!! :tiphat: |
Both are going to fit the same with the aftermarket dash kit. Without it the pioneer will have more of a gap than the kenwood. Both will use the oem metal mounting brackets just make sure to use the new screws that come with your receiver. Both have the features you want and both around the same price range. It comes doen to what you prefer. My opinion I would go with the kenwoods. Just seen pioneers fail over time, even people on here have PM'd me about that.
Not sure about the viewing gps from the iphone. |
Just installed pioneer avh-p4400bh, great deal for $400! Can't go wrong with it!

not wanting to use an aftermarket dash kit is going to make your install quite a bit more difficult. You will be left with a pretty noticeable gap around the radio that you will be quite difficult to fill. You need to suck it up and use a dash kit

I have the DDX719 and pics are in my journal. I like the fitment just fine.

No problems with the climate controls knobs on my installs.
As mentioned no dash kit is needed for the kenwoods just the pioneers. |
Anyone have an installed pic of the bezel Crutchfield sends with their orders?

I just had mine installed today and I just got done messing with it a little while ago. It fits great. It's a Kenwood DDX419. I Don't have the garmin navigation app yet so I can't comment on that. Here's a pic of it.

Although my Metra double din kit is covered with CF from Carbon Fiber Element, it is still going to fit the same way.

whats a good site to oder these das kits from
|
Scosche makes an bezel that fits best. I've tried the OEM, metra, and Schosche and by far its no comparison. The oem bezel leaves a pretty big gap on the sides, where as the metra kit uses a trim ring which can look odd depending on the head unit you use. Go with the scosche.. It looks like its oem, matches the color perfectly and leaves no gap at all.
