Door Rattle Cure
I have developed a slight rattle in the driver's side door due to installing a set of Focal K2P speakers. This is only audiable when the mid-bass speakers play at lower frequency.
I already installed sound deadening material on back side of the the plastic door finisher and the metal door panel. I would appreciated posting your experience with installing sound deadening curring rattles and mention where the sound deadening was installed. |

I applied deadener to the plastic panels as well, but I also used 3/16 weatherstripping to the outer edges of the panel where it meets the steel door skin, as well as making "washers" out of it around the push fasteners where it met the steel. Time consuming, but solved the problem for me.

Sound deadening in behind the regulator panel.
So if you want to go to this extent, I can probably help talk you through pulling the regulator panel off to where you have access to the inside of the outer door skin and such.
Using the method my wife and I had figured out earlier in the winter you can deaden the entire exterior skin along with the bottom. For me, this is the only way. I think "slapping" the deadener on top of the reg. panel is a joke. The only tricky part about pulling the panel off is, you have to drill out 2 rivets. These rivets hold the panel to the window tracks. Putting the panels back on is just a little tricky, but not too bad. I've had mine back together now for a month or so and am not having any problems whenever I raise or lower the windows. Send me a PM and I can give you some info; if you feel like going this route.. Probably not something you want to do in your friend's driveway to where you need to have completed in an afternoon... Pat |

I agree. you want to get in there and deaden that whole panel as well.
be cautious, because your cable runs up and down in the channel where the back of the rivet lies

I have some sound deadening material left over. Has anyone tried adding a speaker cover (i.e. enclosure) to the back side of the the 6.5" speakers? I am not sure if adding a speaker cover would potentially damage the speaker. This type of enclosure is sold to protect the back of speaker from potential water damage. you can also get some insulation from your local hardware store and combine that with dynamat or whatever sound dampening material you would like. my trunk, under seats and doors are all done this way, and it really fills the space and eliminates any pesky rattles.
