Question on wiring up a stereo and steering wheel controls

Hey guys. I have been searching and I have found MOST of what I need. Here are the questions I have left...

I have a Kenwood DDX318
Turbowire wiring harness
PAC SWI-RC steering wheel control kit

I also have a small amp for the speakers and a Kicker Hideaway (amp and 8 in. sub combo)

1. I have most everything wired up BUT I still have a blue/white amp turn on wire left. Is this wire used to power the small amp for the speakers or what does that go to? I also have a wire on the stereo side of the harness that says power control (also blue/white). Am I an idiot and they go together?

2. My second question refers to the steering wheel control adapter. As far as the resistors go, how exactly to we tap in to the harness? I have read that we can just cut directly into the wires on the factory harness to splice in. Do I just cut a slit in the wire and electrical tape the resistors in? I have also read that the wires may not be the same color as the is indicated, but as long as we get the wire going to the correct pin I should be ok.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance fellas!!

1. That wire goes to the wake up input or REM of your new amp.

2. I would ditch the pac and get the metra axxess for steering wheel controls much easier to install and use.

Thanks for the quick response.

1. That would be the smaller amp for the speakers or for the Kicker hideaway?? Or both?

2. Lets just say i'm married to this one haha. I would be able to splice in the 2 resistors as I described above correct? I also saw mention of 2 other resistors as well correct?

Update. I forgot to mention that I have a lime green wire that came with the stereo. The end has some sort of connector on the end with a rubber cover. ANY idea what that could be for?

1. Remote lead will turn on anything that needs a hot switch to turn on with the radio (typically all amplifiers).

As for the green wire I would check your manual if it isn't printed on the wire itself... could be several things... my pioneer had a lead to switch the reverse cam on which was purple. Display illumination leads are usually orange in my experience. Could be a parking brake safety switch as well. Big will probably know but your best bet is to check your manual.

Ok before I drive myself crazy, I've installed an swi rc with a 940 bt, can get volume & not mode or up/down. Double checked all wiring & it's absolutely right, one 150 ohm resistor & the other to ground, no signal from mode or up down to pac, switched right wired right, grounded right. I'm at a loss. Before you think I'm a newbie, keep in mind it's my millionth install & if you have an own rear camera that you want in your avics display, I'm your guy :)

2013 Nismo non Bose.

Just slower response than the metra for commands.

Sent you an email, but thought I would ask here also.

Does your OEM backup camera display show up in your headunit WITH the "backup lines" also? I spliced into my OEM Homelink backup camera and now have the video show up in the Headunit, but not the "backup assist lines". I used a standard RCA jack, plugged one end into Headunit and cut off the other end. After stripping away the outer wire, I stripped away some of the inner wire and spliced that into the video feed. The bare outer wires of the RCA jack I just grounded. Should I have spliced those into something?

Did you ever get it to work? I have a 2010 Nismo, and my up/down has never worked with my aftermarket HU. About to trade for a '13, and would really like to have full use of steering wheel controls in the new car.

Try manual programming.

naw, the PAC responds just as fast as the axxess. i speak from experience now, remember? :icon17:

with all the trouble people are having, just get the PAC.

The pac is slower, I have installed at least 4 of them, they take much longer to install as well with their resistors as well. The newer model of the aswc will work with auto programming which means just another reason why you should get it over the pac.

i dont think so. ive installed over 10 pac's over the years and it's as fast responding as the axxes. there is really not much latency.

i still read posts where people are still having problems with the axxess.

I disagree two of my customers had me take their pac's out (2009) because of the delay. I have no clue why people are having trouble, I have had no problems installing and using them. Way better than the pac hands down.
