it would help a lot if you did add an amp.

A help, definitely, but not a necessity.
Although I'm all for upgrading any stereo system, it will sound just fine without an amp if you chose not to use one.
Your best bet would be to install the speakers, and give it a listen, then decide.

Honestly, from what I've been hearing and from my past experience with audio, you will get better sound leaving the stock speakers and replacing the HU, then changing the speakers and leaving the HU. The weak point of the factory system is the HU, not the speakers, which is the case for most cars with shitty systems.

bmarcinczyk14....all i can tell you is that i bought my Z with an upgraded headunit that puts out more watts than the stock HU and the sound quality, for me, is still bad.
I agree an upgraded HU will make the stock speakers sound better..just not great.

Yea, the stock base speakers in the Z I'm sure are pretty crappy, no where near the OEM Rockford Fosgate system in my Sentra SE-R. All I'm saying is you'll still see more of a improvement going with a new HU rather than going with new speakers, since the factory amp is such crap. Also, I just noticed you randomly bumped a year old thread that's not even yours.....Why lol. DId you have a question?

Your best scenario is change the speakers and use an amp... Don't forget the subwoofer... You can get a Full system from us for $799.95 shipped to your door... "370Z Stage 1 system" Complete with Front speakers, Amplifier for fronts and subwoofer, Subwoofer enclosure and a Subwoofer...

If you do not want to get into all that I understand, But it really helps to have the full range of the sound spectrum in your car, reduces the risk of you blowing your doors speakers, because they will not be able to produce the sound you want in the low end by them selves.

Wicked C.A.S.*::*MAGIC BOXES*::*Nissan*::*370Z Corner Stage1 Package. Stereo system JL AUDIO

I can also put together a package for you with just speakers and a 2 channel amp...

I agree replace the HU first. My new Sony HU came with a 7 band EQ which is way better than the stock bass, treble adjustments. Plus more watts to power the speakers so it sounds cleaner even at low volumes.

Wicked sounds like a good deal! Also check Sonic Electronics, they have great prices on everything. I bought my Pioneer double din nav unit for about 250.00 cheaper than anyplace else had it listed for.

The stock speakers are the worse I have ever seen in a vehicle. (and I have replaced many) I replaced my HU on the 3rd day of having my Z. The stock speakers were distorted and could not handle the extra power. I replaced them the next week. In your case, I would change the speakers first as Ron Rizz stated then go from there.

Sorry...i should have wrote my original question when i bumped this thread...see below.

Id like to change out my stock door speakers and tweeters with new ones.
Anyone have suggestions on brands / models? Also, do I need an AMP?
I have a Pioneer Nav/multimedia head unit (AVIC-Z110Bt). (Came with the car so i dont know much about it..like if its a good model or not). The manual says it has 22W*4 RMS and 50w * 4 Max power output.

Thanks in advance!
