Back speakers aren't working...

Hey guys, I'm sure this is a fairly simple problem, and I didn't see any other posts about this, so I'm really sorry if this has been answered before. I got my Z a few weeks ago and one of the first things I did was set up the audio the way I like it. That's when I realized that my rear speakers behind my seats aren't working at all. Just the door speakers and the dash tweeters. I took the dash apart and pulled the HU out to make sure nothing had come loose. I started heckling wire connections and everything *looks* good (didn't have time to pull out the multimeter) and I saw that there is only fr, fl, rr, rl wires. I'm guessing that the tweeters are hooked up with the door speakers right? I've done installs before so I'm familiar with this stuff, but I can't figure out why the back speakers wouldn't be working. When I fade to the back it just cuts out completely, so it's not a bad line to one of the speakers, but the back speaker connection is good behind the cd player. ?? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This is an easy one... you bought a base model and you don't have rear speakers and thus the rear speakers don't work...

Oh wow, do I feel retarded. I could have sworn I read it was six. Stupid me. So that leads to another question: what size are the back speakers? And are wires already ran for the back speakers in the factory harness or am I running new ones myself?

i think those are 4" but i like my car with only front speakers. :)

i suppose one could add a nice sub though.

I didn't think any trim of the 370 had rear speakers. Does the touring have rear speakers? The lack of rear speakers hasn't concerned me but I'm not an audio person.

No rears in the base, nor would i recommend getting rears.

Yeah mine has rears.

Why do you make that recommendation, Bigaudio? Half of why I thought this was because the middle pillars have the spot for the speakers, I havent had the time to pull the panels off so I just assumed there were speakers in there. I'm a musician so by default I'm also kind of an audiophile, I hate cheap headphones and equipment, and I put a lot of money into my guitar equipment and home audio setup. I want my car to be the same. I would think that more speakers would sound better, but I've been on here long enough to see that you are way more knowledgable in this area than I am, so I would like to hear your reasons.

Big (not to speak for him) believes that it ruins the soundstage. The rear speakers aren't really firing at the ear. I personally am not an audiophile hence why I like the rear. I would rather be surrounded by sound (whether it has audible quality loss or not). To each their own. I'm sure big can expand on his reasoning.

yeh, im a fan of rear speakers as well.

each to their own though :)

As was mentioned, I am a audiophile by heart. Think of a concert where the music you are hearing is coming from in front of you. So I like to replicate that.

I also go on the principle that artists record in 2 channel stereo, "some dvd's are 5.1 dolby or DTS" so that is how you should listen to your music with a 2 channel setup. SQ setups are made and build without rear fill as well.

Rear speakers are also for rear passengers and with such a small car with no rear seats I do not see the need for them. In addition the small 3 1/4 speakers are very close to your ears so they will reach your hearing before your fronts, throwing off your sound stage.

Very good explanation Big, thank you very much. While what you're saying makes sense in my brain, my ears have been complaining since day one. Even before I did the audio adjustment I could tell that backs weren't playing. I like to be immersed in the sound, like when you have a nice pair of headphones on you can't tell where the sound is coming from and in the car it definitely all feels in front of me. So back to my last question, are the wires ran to the back spaces from the factory or do I have to run that myself? Will I get any sound degradation if I link the tweeters and the doors together and run the other set of wires to the back pair?

Just to clarify, I have a Pioneer deh-p6200bt and the harness it has only provides for 4 speakers, that's why I'm talking about running the tweeters with the door speakers.
