I put 3 1/2" in mine and I love 'em.
There was too much dead air in the back of the car as far as I'm concerned. I like a lot of sound all around me. (I've got 10 speakers in my home system). My head unit also has a lot of controls that allows delay and "movement" of the sound.

Big and I disagree on this point. At a concert, the sound may be coming from in front of you, but there is also a lot of reverberation and echo all around you, unless you are in a sound deadened facility. My opinion anyway. Like I said, I like a lot of sound, not loud, just a lot of it.

no wires, you have to run them.

haha thanks man, I don't like to bother people if I don't have to, I like teaching myself with the knowledge that's there and not being a PITA

Yeah Tree, I was actually thinking the exact same thing. When I play guitar for a show the best sound in the world is when I have a cab 90 degrees on my right and left and my amp head running stereo omgomgomg it sounds amazing. I don't like sound coming from just straight in front of me.

And now here's another question: what's a good set of 3.5" speakers to go with? I haven't looked at speakers in a bit. I was always a big fan of polks, anything better these days for the same price range?

If your new speakers are installed and amped, you will hear some reverberation from the back, especially if you ran your new tweeters on axis aimed towards you instead of in the factory location. Also i you plan on adding an amp and sub in the future I would add those first. May account for the fill your missing.

Rear speakers are good for some fill plus work the best when watching DVDs:tup:
