Erratic bluetooth connection?

The bluetooth connection between my Iphone 4 and DDX418 is erratic. Sometimes it connects immediately on start up, sometimes after a few minutes, and sometimes not at all. Sometimes I can turn the HU off and then on and it will connect, or not.

I've tried holding the phone close to the HU, and setting the phone in different places but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

Try deleting the profile from the phone and resyncing.
