It is a module that allows you to use the factory steering wheel controls with an aftermarket radio.

It is an adapter that lets you use your stock steering wheel controls to control certain aftermarket head units.

I'll be sure to put up my opinion once I get mine installed.

Here's my 2 cents after having it installed recently on my Z with Kenwood DNX6140.

I've set it so that the settings mirror the original settings with the original head unit.

There is some lag when you want to change radio stations. About 1 sec before it updates.

Changing Sources also takes about a second.

Volume is a bit quicker than the two, but it's not as quick as the stock setup.

I'd say overall, it does the job, and can be improved upon.

I had the pac-swix, I think on my 2003 350z. I bought the steering wheel controls in england and then adapted them to my aftermarket radio. That control module used an infrared eye and took the place of the stereo's remote. It worked great. Is that how the current one operates?

I have not installed one yet. A few people have wanted it but than they read about it and say never mind. Also the one I was going to do I did not have the resistors "first one I did" so they did not get it installed. I look at it as your hand is right there next to the head unit can you not move your hand to the screen a few inches to changed the volume or what not? Just how I look at it.

By that logic, why do the manufactures put them in the car in the first place?

Because they believe that they are going to make driving safer for you and that you will be able to look at the road more than the radio. But honestly I do not see how it helps you still have to confirm that you are on the station you want or the track that you want.
