2011 Bose+NoNav+iSimple = Shortened XM Titles?
Hey guys. A quick question...
I've just had my 2011 Z Touring for a few weeks. Last week, I bought & installed the PAC iSimple Gateway for my iPod/iPhone. Followed Spartan's amazing DIY (http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...a-gateway.html). Went well. All seems fine, but a couple of days ago I noticed something strange. As I was driving home from work one day, while listening to XM, I noticed that all of the display text was being cut-off after 8 characters. Song titles, artists, channel names, etc. I just get the first 8 characters on the display when it's displaying text info. Hitting "DISP" changes what is displayed, but still just 8 characters. "SCRL" does nothing. There doesn't appear to be anything physically wrong with the display; I get the channel number on the far right, and I get full-text descriptions when browsing my iPod. The screen itself is working. The next day, the XM display was back to normal - full descriptions going all the way across the screen. Later that day, back to just 8. And again this morning, just 8 characters. Before I installed the iSimple, I don't recall ever seeing just 8 characters. AFAIK, it was always the full text. I have to believe that the iSimple is messing up the Satellite text somehow. But I'd only owned the car a week before I put the iSimple in, so I don't know for sure. Anyone else experienced this? I was going to email the iSimple people but I wanted to hear from the experts here first. I'm thinking I may dig into the dash and check the connections or even uninstall the iSimple tonight to see if it fixes it, but of course, that requires taking the whole dash apart... again.:ugh2: |
Curiously enough, I found this on an XTerra forum...
RF with factory XM only displays 8 characters of song title. Updated 4-30-11 with fix [Archive] - Second Generation Nissan Xterra Forums (2005+) And this on a Titan forum... http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tita...weirdness.html Obviously both Nissans. Sounds like exactly the same problem I'm seeing. Curious if anyone else has experienced this. I will try the start-in-FM-switch-to-SAT plan and see if that makes a difference. |
Interesting... I hate that our cars don't scroll the text as it is... one of the reasons I am upgrading the headunit. My fathers substantially cheaper Altima has a nice color 3+ line display with backup cam (non-nav) yet the Z that costs 15k more has that BS display... his is BOSE too btw.

Wanted to update my thread...
I spent some more time tinkering with this. I found multiple threads on other Nissan forums where they were discussing problems just like this, though not on other Z's and without mention of iPod interfaces. So I do think there's some kind of Nissan-specific funkyness with XM characters going on. Curious that there's no mention of it here, though. The shutdown-mode doesn't seem to have any affect for me. There seems to be no way to fix it while the car is running or in ACC, as a power-cycle on just the HU has no effect. HOWEVER, I have noticed that after a full ignition cycle, the display works as normal. So I go for a drive, shut down the car, count to 10, start it back up, and the display works. 100% of the time. But if I leave it shut off for several hours or overnight, then it reverts back to 8-characters on the next start-up. This morning, I tapped the ignition to ACC for 5 seconds before I started the car (8 characters), then clutched & tapped start to fire it up completely. This worked, and I've got the full character display on XM. I need to remove the iSimple gateway this weekend and see if it reverts back to normal. Will update if I do. Anyway, hope this helps someone else someday. |
I am having the same issue and don't know if I have a faulty unit or some other anomaly.
What did you end up doing to fix this issue on your car? I am going to try to flash the PXAMG and see if this fixes the issue. |
