any better alternatives? (i'm not so much concerned with the cost at this point if the quality is good)

Audiovox is generally low quality...

You can go with the Nissan OEM one found here (may be better priced elsewhere)

The only issue I see is that for the cost of the OEM mirror, you can get a nice double din radio with the backup feature built in (the route I went).

what radio did you get?

AVH-3300BT from Pioneer.

I just dropped my Z off at the dealer to have a OEM rear view mirror back-up cam installed. From prvious experience with rear view mirror cams, the work great. But camera quality goes a long ways too.
