Speaker Placement Advice
I would like some advice on how a 370Z experienced installer would go about setting up a system I am pondering. I realize 370 doors are pretty shallow and I don't really want door panels that are built out unless I have to go that route. I already kick the panels fairly often entering/exiting.
I am not completely sure what alternatives I have besides building a box that contains some of my mids, firing directly behind me. Then building the sub firing backwards; part of the same box. Here is the component set I would like to get: Legatia L641-3 Pro Component Speaker Set - 12v Electronics As for the sub I will go with a single 12": https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraud...iew.shopscript I like old amplifiers... I have some old PPI and Autotek amps stuck away that I will be using, so power is no concern (will probably just use PPI). But I am up for discussion on that also. I do know some car audio people around here (DFW), but wanted to hear from the experienced 370 crowd first. Thanks! |

nice looking set, 7's will fit in the door with a spacer, under the stock door panel, 4's could go in the "tweeter" spot and the tweeter could go in the A piller. Someone on here has done that already, just can't remember who.

7 inch speakers you may have some clearance issues if it was a standard 6.5 I would say your ok.

Your mounting hole is slightly under 6", and due to the fact that you will need a spacer for the depth, it can easily be modified to fit quite nicely.
You definitely do not want your mids mounted behind you. Front stage will be completely lost. by all means, use your factory openings.

Or what about doing the 631 set, with the 3.7" mid? Last edited by 90 ST; 01-18-2012 at 05:26 PM. |

there should be any issue fitting those 7" midbasses in the doors. If you look at the speaker dimensions they are not too much larger than a standard 6.5" mid. I do not know off hand the exact dimensions of that factory mounting holes but i can guarantee you there will need to be an adapter plate made to properly mount the speaker to the door for depth reasons. This adapter will simultaneously make the diameter of the factory mounting hole not matter. The real question here is where to mount the midranges and tweeters. The factory tweeter locations are on the dash facing directly upward into the windshield. Could you put the mid there? Yes but more often than not windshield reflections are not ideal for optimal sound. I would definitely look into a-pillar placement for the midranges and tweeters but the real best way to determine what sounds best to you is to play with temporary placements. Use double sided tape or other temporary methods to mount and listen to the speakers and see what sounds best to you. Then move on to seeing what is required to make the best sounding mount permanent.

Some very sound advice from Big Nate regarding temporary placement for auditioning your speakers.... Placing the mids will be a difficult task without any protruding kick pods, or door mounted pods. even in the a pillars would IMHO seem a bit clunky.
You may be better served in your case to go with a 2 way setup, keeping a stock appearance.

A mid in the tweeters stock location could be very very close. Right under the tweeters bracket about 1/4 inch down is plastic so I am not sure if you are going to have clearance for a mid. If you are seriously going to do a 2 or even 3 way setup I would highly recommend going with either a audison bitone or the more popular option the JBL MS8.

iI have done Hertz as well but they are only 6.5, I still stand by what I say with saying he may have some issues with 7 inch.

I will check out the Bit one and MS8, but honestly I don't want an overly complicated system. Well maybe that is the wrong way to put it. I don't want access to too much to tweak... the more stuff I have to tweak... well, I will be in my car 24/7 jacking with things lol. Perhaps I should just stick with a 2-way and get the Legatia pro 6.5 set. Cutting metal, new grilles for the dash, extending door panels, etc., is not what I want. Unless, the 6.5 just don't give me what I want. One of the installers has the 641 installed in their car and... it sounds very nice. I really appreciate everyone's advice though. Keep the ideas coming if you have them. |

However you could do passive and just run the crossover that comes with the speakers out of the box. I myself am getting ready to run a 3 way active setup in my altima. It is going to be some work however it will double as my demo car.
