Good audio shop in HI
I'm looking for a good professional audio shop in Hawaii to potentially do a full install on my Z. I have most of the equipment from my previous car already (Head unit, 2 12" Rockford Fosgates and amp, as well as a 4 channel for speakers). I can run wires and install most everything myself, though I would prefer to have it professionally done.
My biggest hurdle is the box(s) I would need to install them cleanly and without sacrificing my cargo area. Also wouldn't have the tools/hardware to add the rear speakers (have the base model) if there are no mounting brackets already there. I have already looked at CustomBoxMan's boxes on ebay, but I would prefer something a bit lower profile and using both 12"s. Ideally between the seats and the crossbar and no higher than the cross bar, though that may not be possible. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! |
Im also looking for someone here in Hawaii.
I have heard good things about Revision Audio |
I ended up taking it to Security and Sound Systems (Security & Sound Systems) in Honolulu.
They did a fantastic job and treated my car as well as if I had done the install myself. |
Any pics?

Fairly inconspicuous inside and outside. Originally I wanted it in the stock location, but they had said at the shop that Parrot recommended having no panels or anything in the way. Also, they are cutting me a piece of black carpet with cutouts for the subs to lay on top simply so that the line down the middle where the two panels meet doesn't show I just haven't had the chance to get it yet. |
good bye trunk space. hehe. im still debating if i should put subs and a new stereo i dont want to lose my steering wheel buttons. but yea nice setup

They only did one single chamber, but there is a LOT of air space to play with if you're able to go with fiberglass.
The floor really wasn't raised much at all, maybe 1/4 of an inch at most and that was only due to the panel on top used to make sure the entire floor was covered. The finishing panel is 1/2" MDF and sits in the same place as the stock carpeting. It was a tight fight, though. The box is 3/4" MDF and the subs have a mounting depth of 6 3/4". You have about 8" from the lowest point to work with to maintain stock height. They cut out a hole in the middle and built a pedestal in the box to go around the mounting for the spare tire. |
Oh, nice. I had a similar idea to that. That's why I was wondering how they did it. I dunno if I would have gone with a single chamber for 2 subs. I don't really like the sound that it tends to produce. I find that you can have much "punchier" bass with single chambers.
Well, since I do fiberglass work pretty well now, I can't wait to get my hands on a Z!! |
What Kenwood Unit is that? Backup Cam?
How much did it cost? Ballpark range. |
Kenwood DNX 7140 - $1100 from sonicelectronix.com, $1500 MSRP.
Note if you want Kenwood to support the manufacturers warranty you will need to pay the $1500 and get it from an authorized retailer. |
How much was the labor cost?
+ Box? |
A ridiculous amount. About $900 for the box and $500 or so for the amp/wiring/cap. Had to pay a little extra to have the wires run for 2 amps, though, so I have the option to add one in easily for the speakers at a later date.

Damn.. Are my numbers right? $900 Box ~$500 Labor + Cables/Amp/Cap $1500 Kenwood DNX 7140 $600 2X P3D412 $80 2X P312G = Grand Total $ 3580 |
Also the cost of the amp ($400 iirc).
Fortunately I already had all the other parts from my previous car so all I really had to pay was box/install and getting the HU. Still way more money than I would like to have paid, but unfortunately don't have the tools or the place to do that kind of work here on the island. |
Yeah, I have the stuff from my old car.

Yes,..
Security and Sound is expensive, but well worth it IMO....treat your car with respect and done right the first time for a clean install... Im may go there if Im too lazy to do my own install...not sure if I want an amp for just front speakers...still deciding on which Kenwood double din to get... Also, you NEED the Nav accessory to run navigation and its not built in? |
