Amplified subs

Anyone got the infinity or bazooka self powered subs? How are they and got pics?

nismonster 12-04-2011 11:39 AM

I got the 250 Watt 6.5 inch bazooka and it is great for being so compact and a great turnkey option for a 200$ sub + box + amp combo. Especially how great it will fit in the area above the spare tire. It will fill in the void of the low frequencies. On some songs, it can actually sound quite good.

However, in all honesty that is all it will do. It will not "bump" like a normal sub, but I've heard the bose system and I'd say it definitely hits harder than the stock bose sub. So for those that don't want anything loud enough to shake the car, but still a healthy amount of bass compared to the base system, it is a great choice.

I'm selling mine btw if you're interested :). (Bazooka BTA6250D) Here's a pic of it. Since this pic it has actually been readjusted, and the cone is now facing towards the driver's side (better fitment).

I just had the Kenwood KSC-SW10 installed, decided against bazooka because of poor sound quality, The Kenwood had a remote to adjust Hz and output, and yes, the Kenwood hits, bumps, AND booms:

I would highly recommend these over the bazooka tubes, they are just to boomy.

It's either powered subs or you could pay $400 to add 35-40 lbs to the upper half of your car. Why would anyone pay to add weight and raise the CG on a Z? Just saying.

Some people are into racing & track and weights' an issue, some people like myself could care less about weight gain and want it loud with a sub or two and amps.

Non powered allow you to choose the amp and create a custom box for them.

They can produce a lot more bass and cleaner bass most of the time.

thanks guys, i'm not sure what i'm going to do, i still have a JL w3 from my old car, might just put that joker in, box is too big tho.

on another note: just got AVH-P2300DVD installed it two days ago was working fine, then try to do the by-pass thing and now the unit won't power on. need help, check the fuse on the back of the HU and the changed the blown fuse in the fuse box and still nothing. What's up with this thing plus switch didn't work.

Sounds like you grounded your bypass wire to your red or yellow wire. It needs to go to black wire which is usually ground.

I just bought the Sound Ordinance compact powered sub, it will fit beneath the seats, real tight, but easily behind the seats. I haven't looked into wiring yet, was going to run the power from the battery through the firewall somewhere, and then connect the rear speakers to the sub. I don't think the stock head unit has low level outputs. I already replaced the door speakers with Boston 6.5s, but the car needs at least some bass. Anybody use this sub? thoughts?

I just ordered the Sound Ordnance powered sub and a 2ch amp from Crutchfield.
It's getting great reviews. Probably be a couple weeks before I get to install. Just something to listen to on the way to and from the track.

Yep just looking at it makes me want to start ripping the Z open. But still thinking about changing the headunit while I am at it. Looking at the Clarion CX501....but then I have to get something to sync the steering wheel controls, which I do use. Only advantage would be the bluetooth, and maybe low level inputs...

The reviews on the SO are really good, so I should really get on with the install.

eastwest2300 12-08-2011 04:22 PM

Make it happen bro..throw that stereo in your Z, or hit the beach, you're in Hawaii.. damn, I wish I was in Hawaii!

MagnumPI 12-10-2011 08:13 PM

or hit the beach and think about it!

In my WRX I had an infinity basslink.

I am not much of a audiophile, but I do like listening (and making) music. It was good enough for me, and that was with it in the trunk with backseats that would not fold down.

I am heavily considering buying one for the Z (along with new HU and polk 6.5's) but I hate the fact it would have to sit out in the open in the hatch. I don't expect the slimmer kenwoods or S.O. powered subs to be as good though. Has anyone tried these and can compare?

Ah I remember those, I did one about 4 years ago in a accord. Was not a bad sub.

Do the kenwoods compare?

I would much rather have something below or behind the seat than completely visible to the outside.

threeseventy 12-12-2011 05:00 PM

I just got the Polks and the Kenwood. Matt hid it right behind my seat. Dual 5X7's with 150watts, it freakin thumps and hits hard. Definitely put an amp on the Polks.

The kenwood actually would probably be bette for what you want and does pund pretty well. Much better than a bazooka tube, Right Steve?

threeseventy 12-12-2011 05:34 PM

Def. An upgrade over bazooka, very adjustable with the remote for gain and Hz

The bass on the amplified Polks is surprisingly adequate, but nice to have the extra oomph when you want to go LOW

Dont you just love the Macho Man Randy Savage, he is gone way too soon, way before his time.

MagnumPI 12-24-2011 06:03 PM

hmm, looking for the thread that contained the info on adding wires to the stock harness for rear speakers. I think I will be installing the powered sub using high level rear wires so I can (temporarily) keep my stock head unit.

There are no rear wires to tap in the base and you dont want to tap them if you have bose, get a re-q for that.

MagnumPI 12-26-2011 02:20 PM

Thanks Bigaudiofanat....will be switching to plan B, looking at new HU before I planned to.

MagnumPI 12-30-2011 08:51 PM

Ordered the Clarion 501 after the Crutchfield $30 price drop. Happy New Year. Will have to make time to follow all the great advice on this site to install this and the Sound Ordinance powered sub.

MagnumPI 01-08-2012 03:07 AM

Clarion CX501 and Sound Ordinance powered sub in! Sounds better already with my Boston Acoustics 6.5s. Still fussing with AXXESS interface though :{
