Help Disconnecting Door Harness
Can someone explain how to disconnect the wiring harness running from the door to inside the car - the one that needs to be drilled to run speaker wire from the door to inside the car. I know to pop off the harness there is a lever that needs to be pushed all the way down, however I could not find anything that I could even get to move. Can someone explain, in detail, how to pop this harness out? Please!?
Thanks |

Are you upgrading the wire or just wanting to run the wire to an amp? If you just want to run the wire to an amp you'd be better off just running the wire from the amp to behind the radio and tapping the wire there.

Plus if I didn't update the wiring, I would have to use the factory crossover with after market component speakers. I don't think that would help increase the SQ. Any help on how to remove the door harness will still be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey man i did this the other week....Its pretty easy once you learn how to do it. So I would recommend that you open the door all the way open... on the harness you'll see a lever. This will need to be pulled down. My mistake was that I was not pulling it all the way down. It helps if you close the door a little bit from being all the way open. This will allow for the lever to clear the door. ONce the lever is all the way down it should pop right off. The next step would be to unplug the other end of the harness from the inside of the cabin so that you can drill out a hole for the wire that is to go through. You'll see the empty spot where you can do this. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks. I just went out and tried this. I finally found the piece that you pull down, so I think I got that part.
One other question, hope you don't mind. Where did you run your amp power wire through the firewall? When I look in the engine bay, everything is so crowded, it's hard to find a good place. I know Jeff drilled a hole somewhere behind the brake, but because the engine bay is so tight, I couldn't see where that would come out in the engine compartment. Did you do the same thing? If so, can you elaborate any on it? Thanks again. |

Look at some older posts, there's one covering this topic with pictures. There is already a hole with a plug covering it on the firewall above the clutch pedal.

Yea i know he did it on the drivers side.... but before i saw that post i ran mine on the battery side which is on the passenger side. if you take off the paneling in that area, you will see a bundle of wires that is wrapped in a rubber like fitting that enters the car. I push the power wire through that and wrapped it with electrical tape. Also you'll notice that there is some sticky black like material that seals the rubber to the wires. This is where i ran my power. I am not sure if you know but from what i've read you should ground all ur electronics at the same place. So i ran the ground from my h/u to the ground where for my amps. I also ran the rem wire with that ground wire which is also with the amp power wire. I then ran the signal wires on the drivers side of the car. Hope this helps.
