I was at the dealership the other day for some routine maintenance and asked about this.. $150 service charge. I let them know about a marijuana dispensary in Denver they should look into. They tried to con me with a "its a very complex procedure" to which I laughed at saying $150 would pay for a lot of smiley face stickers if it really started annoying me.

This is a much better solution - thanks a bunch for the post and the help!!

THANK YOU for the helpful post. Had to do it the second time around but it works. major attention on step 2 and 5. first, if not turn off immediately it will not work. second, if you reach step 5 and the light is not blinking slow (diagnostic mode) you should stop and restart. The main goal is to initiate diagnostic mode to disarm airbag light warning.

8 years later and this post saved me a trip to the dealer. Thanks for the help!

I pretty much followed the advice of everyone here except one person and failing to do that bit me in the you know what! I forget who said it but heed the advice of re-connecting the airbag indicator before testing the head unit. Of course I neglected to do that and I ended up with the flashing AIR BAG icon on the dash. I drove it that evening and it didn't seem to affect anything but it is very annoying. If you are like me during the install you probably had/have wires everywhere. Rather than install the head unit in the dash and repalce the dash trim just so I could connect the air bag switch I opted to test my head unit on my lap. Reconnecting the air bag switch is awkward as there isn't much wiggle room.
Anyway the reason for this post is to tell you how to turn that iritating light off. The procedure below worked for me. Youn might have to do it a couple or three times befor eyou get the timing right. I would like to take credit for it but it was taken from another website.

****IIMPORTANT****
Turn the ignition off as soon as the airbag light goes out the first time.

If you have the airbag light blinking here is how to reset it:

1. Push the start button two times (Ignition on but engine not started).

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off INSTANTLY.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps again.

This still works!
Had driver's seat out a short while & irritating light was flashing (air-bag)
After putting back in & plugging everything back up,,,still flashing?
I googled up & this thread popped up & worked like a charm!

I have these directions printed out along with the window reset procedure. I keep a copy of them in the owner's manual folder behind the passenger seat in the storage area. You never know when they will come in handy.

This isn't working for me. I can get into diagnostic mode where the light flashes the different pattern, but there next step doesn't disable it. If I repeat the entire procedure then it takes it out of diag mode and the airbag light flashes as normal. Has anyone done this on a 2017?
