Why no NAV Map updates in over 2 years?
Anyone know what's going on with Nissan and NavTeq? There have been no map updates to the NAV system in over 2 years. (My Z was built in July 2009) Calls to both NavTeq and Nissan yield absolutely nothing. The NavTeq rep told me that map updates are published every "12 to 18 months" but was at a loss for words when asked to explain why nothing has been released in over 26 months for Nissan HDD units. Nobody could tell me when, if ever, we would see a map update available.

While you're at it, could you ask the tech why the Nissan dealership is quoting me $400 out to door to update maps for my '09? WTF? They claim that, in addition to the $150 price for the map file itself that it will take about 2 hours of a mechanic's time to install it! And, although I believe the '10s and later can be updated via a disc that the owner can buy, '09 owners are forced to use the dealership. Or does anyone know a way to install this file yourself on an '09?

Below is the update process I found posted on the a GTR forum for HDD based Nissan NAV systems. I am told that if A dealer claims over 30 min of tech time they are not being honest.
You do.... - Go to NAVTEQ Maps ? Buy the latest map for your GPS SatNav , find your car and buy a license code Comes instantly via email. - Take the code to the dealership with your car. The dealer does.... - The Nissan Consult III diagnostic interface is plugged into the NAV System and first an update of the nav software (not map) is done, it can also update the CDDB info if you choose. (5 mins) - The Consult III system will generate an 8 character code unique to your NAV system. - The dealer will log into a the Nissan/NavTeq licensing site and input the code from your NAV system + the license code you bought. It will generate an third install code that can only be used on your car and within 3 days. At this point your license code will be used up. - Perform the CIII update MAP and it will ask for the install code generated from the site. - Install takes less than 25 minutes - unattended - After the update is done the system NAV will reboot twice, write new bootrom ,etc. - Done.

The web site says the 2011 update is available - I figure every two years is good enough, so probably time with my next oil change.

FINALLY a response from Nissan on Map updates
AT LAST!... After over 3 months of waiting on Nissan North America customer support to give me an answer when the map update for 2010-11 370's will be available I got a response. February 2012. That is over 2 1/2 YEARS since the last update was published! The map now used in all 370's has not changed since the first 2010's rolled off the line in June of 2009. With most GPS suppliers selling up to QUARTERLY map updates on their $50 units this is really really bad support for a $2,000 system. I have no issue accepting the update cost of nearly $200 but anything less than a yearly update is absurd.
