Pioneer NAV Died On ME.
Hey guys,
Pioneed Avic F-900bt died on me. About 2 months ago the unit started turning off and on randomly while driving. Turns out the remote wire that delt with the motion of the car was bad. Two days after getting the car rewired- my ipod stops working with the HU. I used the radio for awhile and CDS. About two days ago the unit officially collapsed & russian text went on the screen and then shut off the lights. The screen is completely black after PIONEER STARTUP SCREEN. (Which with this unit is 45 seconds) Should i get it fixed? Does anyone know of anyone that fixes them? Should i just buy a KENWOOD? Anyone selling theirs? Let me know Thanks |
how old is it?
|
Couple years- three different cars. All owned by me
I just dont get why it would go out. I read online that most HU's tend to crap out after a couple years of use/ |

Pioneers IMO "you all knew I would chime in" from my experience do not last at all. Other manufactures such as kenwood and alpine last for years and years.
I have had their single din units and double din fail from displays stop working to cd's stop ejecting right to the whole unit just dying. Even the pico fuse problem is a PITA. All in all I have seen over 12 pioneer units fail in less than a years worth of use. |
ive been using pioneers. no issue here. :p so big's statisics is only for his use.

Nick I would call pioneer and see if they can help you out. |
sounds like a firmware issue. They should be able to reset the unit to oem default settings. worse scenario you will have to send it in.
|
Big- I knew you would chime in- Thats why i posted this. Probably should of sent a PM too-
Appreciate it though. I tried to update the firmware- unfortunately the unit wont stay on long enough for that.. I will probably just buy a new unit. Have you guys seen the new Pandigital Supernova Tablet? $179 bucks. I figure ill just use the Wi-Fi teathered by my phone. It should save me a ton of money... Any problems with this? I have a simple AUX cord now connecting to the OEM unit. Sound is mediocre. If i use the same setup for the Tablet- Sound quality will be the same. Any recommendations? Amp the tablet setup? I've never thought of using a tab before- but i need a new ipod & nav- this could solve my problem |

I'm with ken haha I still have an old single Pioneer Premier Single Dinn Unit in my Jeep, ran my systems in both my Hyundai's starting back in 05 and then got transferred to my 95 jeep like 3 years ago, still going great.
My alpine flip out from my first Hyundai, how ever died in a year, i had them wired together so the Playstation in the glove box went to my alpine flip and the sound went from that to the pioneer and out the entire system. all in all a great system but i was disappointed with alpine at the time. My dads Kenwood double dinn in his cayenne is a few years old and starting to have a few problems. we're replacing it with the Pioneer AVIC-X930BT. The same unit i just put in my Z about a month ago. Great head unit so far! As far as repairing, matts right, lots of companies now a day will help out just to keep their products out there. ive had similar experiences with some other stuff. but then again, new head units are cheap enough these days. i paid 600 to the door brand new. May be worth upgrading to something new if its getting old but its all what you wanna do Good Luck none the less |
Yeah- I got my unit on sale a couple years back. It was $1200 and i got it for $800--
You think they will fix it if i call & bitch a little bit? At least they will have references... |

Same here………I have owned them all. Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer and others. Had the same experience as you with the newer Alpines. The old school Alpine wasn’t bad back in the day but not now. Pioneer keeps the technology, e.g. firmware, up to date & upgradable and the reviews from “Professionals” concur with what most 370Z owners have experienced………just saying |
sorry to hear that. i've had my D3 for about 4 years now with no major issues. every once in a blue moon it won't eject the cd the first time you push the button, second time usually works tho. i'd say call pioneer and ask them about it. there might be a simple fix, like a hard reset that sets everything (firmware included) back to default.

Its all a matter of luck i think with HU's the main brands are all good, for the most part, it comes down to features and user preferance i think. |

^^^ agree………being forced to take statistics and probability in college (required course), I know there is a small, hopefully a very very small chance for failure in ANY manufactured product! Maybe “someone” who has bad luck with one particular product (Pioneer) is just …………someone who is unlucky!! |
the biggest factor in Big's case is that HE installed the pioneers for his customers and they all died. :D ;) kidding big. :D (or am i? :stirthepot: :icon17: )
pioneers are great, imho. i'd get another one down the road. |
^^^ Exactly………….I was thinking the same thing!!! lol
|
^^^ Actually………..it does make good business sense……….way to go big
|
maybe alpines have a larger profit margin? :stirthepot:
i keed, i keed :happydance: |
^^^ That’s a “BIG” possibility! I just had to say that………….the window was wide open!

Hey I just know that I am not the only person who has had trouble with pioneer the OP'er for example. There is a huge thread on pioneer being junk on caraudio.com Last time I looked it was over 20 pages. But hey what do they know there only previous owners of pioneer products. |
yah wat do they know big, wat do they know. lol :D
ive owned kenwood, alpine, sony, jvc, clarion, and pioneer (i think im missing a few brands..). none of them broke down on me. |
i'm just messin' with you bud. i think all of the major manufacturers make quality products (alpine, pioneer, kenwood, sony, etc). from that point, when i recommend a head unit to someone it depends on if they have any specific requirements for the unit that others don't and/or the interface
|
^^^ I totally agree………..but I still think the newer Alpines could be a little better!
|
Does anyone have any experience with Pioneer Stage 4? Specifically the DEX-P99RS?

Can’t seem to find those 20+ pages? Maybe you should post the link so we can see who posted!! Anyone we know?? lol |
to the OP: I could have swore i posted this up a few days ago, but anyway. There is a forum called AVIC411.com there is a lot of helpful tips there.
I had an avic f900bt and I made my own themes and what not for it, it was a great headunit for me. Anyway, I had the same problem at one point while tweaking some things. It would reset over and over after the "initial boot" What you need to do, to reset the firmware is to get it into what is called "test mode" you will need a sd card to do this. Just look on avic411 and look for testmode and how to install new/reset to original firmware. This should fix you up. It was a great forum that I used to be a part of for a long time. Hope this helps! :tiphat: |
