Default Problem installing kenwood ddx714

Alright guys.... i really have no idea why i am having this problem and perhaps there is an easy explanation. But today when i went to install my head unit i was i could not get my unit to power up. So eventually I tested the wires and concluded that I am not getting power to the unit from the red wire, from the harness. When i connect the red wire to yellow one it turns on and powers up normally. So from what I can tell is that the red wire is not getting power when i turn on the car. Has anyone heard of this problem before? The other thing I noticed is that the power wire for the amp does not get power either, I am guessing this is related to the red wire going into the unit not getting power...Any suggestions would be appreciated very much....

While we are on this subject, does anyone have the pin out and wire color information of the factory connector that plugs into the back of the stock (base) radio?
Thanks,
Willie

I did....Although there is no pink wire coming out from the harness there is a blue and pink one coming from the factory plug. Since I was having issues with the ignition wire I ended up disconnecting all the wires except for the key functional wires such as black, yellow, red, blue/white. I really am stumped to why the ignition wire is not working. The only thing i can think of is that I got a faulty harness. If this is the case I will be very.......pissed off.....

Another thing I don't quite understand is that when i do connect the ignition wire from the headunit to the yellow wire the unit works fine....however, after doing this, the blue/white wire coming from the unit still does not turn on the amp...if i connect that wire from the amp going to the yellow wire it powers on.

Okay here ya go. If you download the service manual, available in that section which is extrememly helpful. you can go to the av section audio video, and go to page 19 there is a diagram of the plug. This should help with the information Jeff gave us. I also figured out my problem. When I attempted to install the steering wheel controller i cut the wrong wire that is to be wired. One of the blue wires on the harness is the ignition wire.... I will be redoing what I did earlier.

Hope this helps...David

Hi Jeff. The ground wire is running to a distribution block where the amp is being grounded. For the wires going to steering wheel controller are you sure it is 15 and 16. I was looking at the service manual and it shows that 15 is the "STRG SW GND" and 16 "STRG SW B". This is for the base model 370z. On you other write up you stated that the wires were blue and pink. Was this for the bose radio? Also the service manual states that in pin 6 "STRG SW A" and that is a pink wire. Your help would be much much appreciated.

Hello again,
Rather than re-inventing the wheel again, can someone please post the factory radio (base) harness wire colors and their function. I got my DNX-8120 and the aftermorket radio to factory harness adapter. If I can get the wire info I will be ready to install the HU tomorrow.
I will take plenty of pics along the way for anyone who is interested.
Thanks,
Willie
