HOW TO for G37 w/ Nav: 370z Touring with Need Video to Go? Here you go! Should Help
This info should be helpful! THIS IS FOR G37 but there should be alot of similarities to the 370Z
[QUOTE]Please be advice that do these procedures at your own risk. Because im not responsible for any damage you might do to your car.[QUOTE] Quote:
Next you'll see and a clip, you want to pull back as the way the arrow is shown. Next tape up along both side on the console like how i did in the picture this was done to avoid any scratch or damage to the surface when im removing the units. Now stick your finger into the shift boot and try to pull up the console. This is to show you where the clip is located on both side Now located these 2 bolts and unscrew them. Next pull the unit outward and downward alittle and it'll come out. Now you want to unclip the 3 plug except for the one in the red circle because when i tried to unclip it that thing is super hard to come off so dont take any risk by trying to take it off. Next located these 2 bolts and unscrew them. Now stick your hand in there and pull out the central air vents/control unit. This what both unit will look like off the dash. Next located these 2 bolts and unscrew them. Now with both hand slowly pull the monitor out and unclip the plug in the back. This what look like with everything off except for the radio/cd unit still attach. Next to take off the radio/cd until you will need to loacte these 2 bolts and unscrew them. This mod will allow you to bypass the video-while-moving and input-while-moving restrictions that the car has in place. The input-while-moving lockout does not allow you to scroll or use the on-screen keyboard while the car is moving, and the video-while-moving does not allow video to play through the AUX inputs unless the car is stopped and the e-brake is engaged. What you need: * screwdriver * a decent wire stripper or multitool * some really thin wire (Cat 5 or telephone wire) * an SPST switch (check Radio Shack) First thing you need to do is crack open the center console and get access to the back of the nav/av unit. Follow these instructions until you gain access to the back of the radio. This is where things vary from nav to non-nav cars... For cars with nav, the pins that you need to cut are #36 (e-brake) and 38 (VSS). Cut these 2 wires, one is sky blue (parking brake) and the other is light gray (VSS). To bypass the input lockout of the Nav all you need to do is cut wire #38, the VSS, and wire it up to your switch. When the switch is off, the car thinks it's stopped and the input is enabled. To enable video while moving, you need to interrupt VSS and ground the e-brake. For that you need to cut the #36 wire and connect the end that goes to the nav unit to a ground in the car. You can use one of these 2 spots to ground the parking brake wire.

Yes for for Nav! Have you messed with one with Nav? I asked AK about this and as long as you post a disclaimer then you can post about bypassing the video lockout. Or Nav controls lockout

This guide was very helpful though I have a manual so that was a bit different. I ended up just leaving the shift knob. Also, I had trouble getting the starter switch unplugged

This is for the G37 so maybe they changed something but I do not know. But right now you are probably the first to attempt this for the Z. Im interested in your progress. What differences have you noticed between what I posted and this guide? Have you gotten the nav controls to work while your moving or video with out being stuck in park?

Actually I have decided to take a break on working on the car... for now i have temporary fix on it. To be honest I've found myself waring myself out working on the car and working my job. I think i'll try to get everything else done next weekend. So far I got the head unit working without the steering wheel controls. I have not tried a dvd yet.... but i believe i have it wired so that it will play while i'm driving...but i do not have nav for this unit yet.

I am installing the DDX714 not the DNX7140. I plan to eventually get the add on for the nav but it is not a dire need. I finally installed the unit.... I kind of got burnt out on working on the car so I decided to install the unit and later on do the add ons such as the peswiac steering wheel controls, blue tooth(though wouldn't be hard), and the cutting an opening for the usb connection. So in order to get the unit to play video while I am moving I simply grounded the light green wire that is to go to the e brake switch. Perhaps later this week or this weekend I will do the pes wiac, blue tooth usb.
The unit does sound awesome. I purchased some DLS three way component speakers and currently have a temporary 12" L7 in the back.....Just can't stand not having base. The L7 does appear to nearly supply my need.... I used to have two of these but just am not happy with the lows. I wanted to put a Rockford t2 in but am concerned about the mounting depth. |

hi,
I don't have the nav system, but since I am installing the parrot hands free BT kit I think I would like to have video active all the time. I purchased a pre wired "T" connector off ebay that allows you to just plug in the parrot without cutting any wires or soldering. I would like to cut the correct wire in the T connector to enable video if you know which one. Thanks for the photos for opening the console it probably will save me from damaging something. There seems to be 20 pins in the ISO connector so I am not sure which one to cut and ground. Regards, Paul Cotto |
