What components?
Hey guys, complete audio noob here with a $150 gift card from BestBuy :icon17: I'm looking for a set of components. I don't have an amp nor sub YET so I'll be running them from my HU (xnv-770bt) for now. I am not after a perfect sound or super loud setup. I pretty much wanna keep it simple and affordable, just looking to upgrade from factory setup. I was looking at these, let me know what you think:
Kenwood - Kenwood 6-1/2" Component Car Speakers with Polypropylene Cones (Pair) - KFC-P709PS - Best Buy Clarion - Q Series 6-1/2" 2-Way Component Speaker System (Pair) - SRQ1621S - Best Buy Alpine - 6-1/2" 2-Way Component Car Speakers with Poly-Mica Cones (Pair) - SPS-610C - Best Buy Any of those worth it or should I be looking at something else? Thanks! |
Image dynamics! Best speakers i ever bought
|
polk dB's... if bestbuy sells them.
|
if thats all they have, take a listen to each and hear which you like the best.

These ones? Polk Audio - 6-1/2" Component Loudspeakers with Poly-Mica Composite Cones (Pair) - DXi6500 |
What are you going to be running them off of?
If you are running it off the head unit than the polk db's would be your best bet. Or the alpines. For amped power look at the alpine type r's if you can only buy from best buy. |

No amp for now. I do plan on getting one soon, and a sub too
|
ron- humm... i was thinking the DB6501...
Amazon.com: Polk Audio DB6501 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component System (Pair, Silver): Electronics |
If you plan on building on the system and later adding an amp and sub then don't cheap out on the components now. Personally I went with Alpine Type R's I haven't installed them yet. I had the Type S awhile back in my old car and I like them.

Can I run the Polk DBs with an amp? That way I can just buy the Polk's somewhere else and get an amp from Best Buy for pretty much the same I would spend if I go with the $200 Polks. Remember I am not after perfection, just something that sounds decent, not gonna crank them up all the way or anything.
|
you can run the DB's on an amp but not necessary. it's not a super powerful component so it will work fine with most HU speaker output including the stock base HU.
|
Ok so if I wanted too add a sub I can get a small amp for it and run the components off of the HU. Right? I hate not knowing stuff haha
|
yah, you can add the sub later no issue. you can get separate sub+speaker cabinet or a combo like the basslink.
|
Depending on the size of the sub you may be able to get a powerful enough multi channel amp to run both the components and the sub ie. Alpine PDX5 but like I said that depends on the size and power needs of the sub you intend on getting.
|
Single 10'' sub. I could get a 4channel amp, run 1 for each component and bridge the other 2 for the sub, right?
Is power acoustik a good brand? Power Acoustik - 1600W Class AB Bridgeable 4-Channel MOSFET Amplifier - BAMF1600/4 Edit: I guess I can. Tri-mode capable Lets you run a subwoofer along with 2 speakers from 1 amp. |
Ok, I think I am gonna get the alpine type-s and run them off of deck power (DBs were my first option but BestBuy does not carry them). I will then get a mono amp and run a 10in sub.
Edit: I heard the twitters on the Alpines are too bright.. any experience with this? |
I would pass on the db's if you are going to run an amp with them. Get one of the higher sets.
I do not see the alpine tweeters as being to bright. Also X2 on the PDX amps. |
You've all been repped. Thanks guys
|
I am a little late on this, But if you are planning on doing this please get an amp and do it at the same time. It will be a night and day difference. Promise...
|
Run the typeS from an amp?
|
I would get the type r's for better sound threw an amp.
|
everyone gave some great advice... whatever set you choose compared to the factory set it will sound tons better............
