Focal 165VB, need opinion
I just saw these Focal 165VB Polyglass 6.5" 2-way components on sale for $169. I am wondering if these will fit the Z and will the stock unit be able to drive these. I plan on upgrading the whole system later but just want to replace the speakers now. Also, should I be getting another pair for the rear? Thanks for the help.

Yes, they will fit. The door speakers are 6.5". You'll have to do quite a bit of work to get the tweeters to fit, but that goes for anything other than stock.
They will definitely sound better than stock. A toilet paper tube and some bailing wire would sound better than stock. You'll also need a spacer to pull the speakers out a little. There are quite a few threads on here about this. |

I looks like a real good deal. Most other sites, Crutchfield, ABT, etc are carrying for about $300.
I checked resellerratings.com and 6th Avenue has very good reviews. |

I bought a Denon home stereo receiver from 6th Ave about six years ago. The price was right and the product performs as expected, so I wouldn't shy away from them. I suppose there is always a chance you'd get gray market gear, but my experience with them was good.

They will fit BUT WAIT,
if you are driving them off a stock head unit or even a aftermarket head unit you will be disappointed they want AMP power. Trust me I have installed a few sets of these, also do not forget to get the spacer ring from zenclosure and run new speakers wire.

I know bigaud will tell you that you don't need rears. I really like mine. It helps to fill the rear nicely. It's just whatever you like. |

Kenwood KFC-P708 Component speakers in front.
Infinity Kappa 32.9cf in back. Kenwood DNX9960 head unit. I don't have an external amp and I get plenty of sound for my liking. I'm old though. |

Correct, I do not see the need for rear speakers in a sports car. With a high quality set like the polyglass speakers you will not need them. Just my .02

Which components would you use to set up the car (a convertible)? What would you do if you were to set it up to your liking (with the focals as the front speakers)? It is really too bad that you are on the east coast... |
