HD RADIO - Please help!

Hey guys! I'm pretty new to this forum...just recently purchased my 370z! Before I even had a chance to enjoy my car, I decided to swap out the base radio HU for a JVC KW-AVX840. It has all the features I wanted. I added Sirius and HD radio. Had a local shop install it. Everything is good EXCEPT the HD Radio. I could be driving along and have full signal and then the signal drops. The tech told me that JVC said they had some issues with this car due to the antenna being in the rear window. They suggested a digital antenna that mounts on the inside of the windshield. Sweet! I said let's do it! They installed it and now its even worse! One station comes in and I'm lucky to get half way decent reception on the analogs. I know its not where I live b/c my 5 year old alpine from my 350z worked perfect. Plus I had a Volvo loaner when I was waiting for delivery of my car that had stock HD...worked perfect too! I'm basically beside myself and thinking maybe these guys don't know what they are doing?? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Mike

Take it back and have them either fix it or replace the unit if it's their radio. Maybe the antenna's been damaged during installation? Worst case try another shop.

I have a kenwood with the HD radio module and my HD signal drops in and out frequently. I assume it's due to a weak antenna. Has anyone boosted their anteanna signal? I'm interested in a suggestion as well. Technical ones beyond the lame suggestion of taking it to a shop and saying fix it.

wow, i didnt know people still used HD radio.. lol we use pandora now. ;)

the biggest problem with HD radio is that (from what i know and have actually experienced this using a JVC Arsenal years ago) it's a digital signal and unlike analog, when there is some interferrence the signal completely drops off instead of hearing a light crackle like on regular am/fm channels.

i personally think HD radio was a failure. good concept but not enough RAM in the HU. i dont know if there was ever a HD specific standard made for RAM buffering.
