where to pass thru the firewall
for hooking up the power wire for my amp. does anyone know the best way to get it thru the fire wall. I havent taken the battery out yet to see if there is a hole in there.
EDIT: answered my own question. there is a rubber cover northwest of the battery. looks like all the wires pass thru there. if your creative you can slide the power wire thru the cover and it will look like it came from the factory that way. took all of about 5 min once i figured it out. take off the battery cover. then take off the surround for the battery cover. then take off the black plastic piece north of that (the one at the bottom of the windshield. its right there. the little plastic clips just pop off with a screwdriver and the squishy thing that runs the width of the car clips on too. just pull

NOT BEHIND THE BATTERY!!!! The Perferct spot on all 350's 370's G35' G37 is on the Drivers side below the brake booster! There is a Knock there behind the foam on the fire wall. Here are pics
FUSE HOLDER MOUNTED TO BATTERY BRACKET. Upgraded 4 Ga ground. 4 Ga power loomed and passing thru a 1/2" snap in grommet. Then silconed to prevent water and wind to pass thru. Enjoy Guys!

Thanks Jeff. i saw this earlier but wasn't sure if they were the pictures you were referring to. I am assuming the first picture is the upgraded ground for the battery. Did you also replace another ground?

Not on this system, the voltage gauge in that stays above the 14V marker now all the time since the ground upgrade!

Just for those interested, here is what that same space looks like on a 2010 6MT:
Very little room to work there - not even sure the hole is actually usable given all the hardware that seems to attach to the firewall at that location on a manual transmission. |

I used the spot under the brake booster on my auto and it was real easy to fish the 4ga. over to the battery. I didn't have too remove any of the covers either. The manual looks like it would be a bitch to get to though. I guess it depends on which trans you have?

Does anyone have a picture of how they attached the amp wire to the positive terminal? |

You are correct and the 2009 manuals are the same as well. I attempted this back in January when someone else said to use this spot, but it was virtually impossible to get to. The original poster is correct in that there is an identical firewall plug behind the battery that can be used. I think this one is more practical as it was easier to get to and requires less wiring to run in the engine bay.

But thanks for all your videos and those pics of the connection to the battery - that's just what I needed - I assume you had to alter that red casing that fits over everything so it can close with the new amp wire connected - I found another thread as well that shows a similar connection setup and altered red casing. Thanks again SlikNik - I probably wouldn't even think about doing this myself if it hadn't been for your videos - wonder how many people you have inspired/assisted with those. |

True, I just finished installing my system last week and watched every single video on this site (at least twice) to make sure I did it right. Good stuff, from some very thoughtful people. I also had to go through the boot behind the battery for my amp power run; getting to the that rubber plug on the driver's side was damn-near impossible.
