Will a JL 13W7 fit in the spare tire well?
Since I don't have a Z to measure, I'm wondering if someone here can answer this: Will a JL 13W7 fit in the spare tire well, and still leave the stock rear floor flush? Obviously, that means the spare is removed, but it also means having enough volume there to allow the sub to work (1.875 cu. ft., according to the interwebs).
For reference, I think the JL13W7 is 10.5" deep, but that's off Amazon, so I could be wrong... I'm just going to guess that the answer is no, but I thought I'd ask. As far as 12's - what do people think is the best sub that will fit, and is it even worth having 2 in a car this small? |

Sure if you cut a 12" hole in the bottom of the spare tire well. Then the magnet of the sub might hit the hit the ground when you go over a big bump.
OK, I am being a bit facetious becasue theat sub is rediculously large. If you want the flush look you will have to use the slim line 13" JL sub. In this small of car that is going to produce a ton of bass. I have had a single 12W3v3 in my 350z running 250 watts and it produced a sick amount of bass. |

my 12w6v2 was amazing in my G... and honestly I was scheming on making a box i could easily take out for track days... the 12'' needs about 1.5 cubic feet. The spare well is about a little less than a foot deep. Maybe make a circular sealed box
So lets say 1 ft depth with so then surface area of the box would need to be 1.5 ft squared.... so lets see... pi*r*r = 1.5 r = sqrt(1.5/3.14) r = .7' so... you would need a box thats about 1.7' radius x 1' depth hmm ill do some measuring when i get home n let you guys know |

More than likely you will have to raise the box out of the tire well and make a false bottom (well floor rather) but I think it could be done. Oh, I don't have a Z but I have done a lot of research on the car.

Yeah - seeing the pics with the 13W5 makes me realize it's not going to happen without a raised rear, which basically gets rid of the cargo space. I need that space for weekend trips - one of the best parts of the car.
So it's a decision between a more standard 12, a flat 13, or the two 10s that Jeff did. The two 10s may be the tightest option in terms of responsiveness. Any of the above will probably produce enough bass for me - I've always wanted some really serious bass, but I don't really need to have stuff falling apart, seals leaking, etc... |

In no way am I with any affilliation with MTX but I have been using MTX for quite awhile now. If you stay away from their baseline products and are willing to spend the extra money, you can get some really top of the line sh*t. Check this out....

Its funny that you mentioned this imag, I was actually thinking about getting a 13w7, but didn't even consider whether or not it will fit or not... i currently have my trunk taken apart since i am dynamating alot of my car. I'll try to take some measurements today when I get a chance. I was also looking at a T2 from rockford. I am pretty sure that one sub is going to be enough....but I too have always wanted some serious bass. I thought about trying to squeeze either two T2s starting off with one at first or just getting the 13W7. I think I have concluded that I would like to salvage some trunk space though. Rockford makes the T2 and it handles 1000 watts rms available in 12" and 15". The mount depth is 8.8" For the 12" and 9.9" for the 15". 2.25 cu ft (vented) for the 12" and 3.25 cu ft (vented) for the 15"

I hear you. That *probably* would be fine... but I also think we're in the mode that you're better off having more bass and not needing it than needing it and not having it - I just don't want to get through all this and wish I had a *little* bit more
No matter what, the 13" slim definitely fits, as do two 10s, so I'm going to go at least that far. I'm curious to hear about whether the rockfords will fit... |

Since cost isn't an issue this shouldn't matter. I did alot of research on the T2s from rockford vs the W7s from JL. The concensus was that the Rockfords give a run and are just as loud.... but the JLs have more SQ. I think i read some where that a guy had two 13w7 and two T215's and they had about the same db reading, and commented that the JLs had more SQ. The thing to consider is that in that particular set up, the JL's need 1000 more watts, so boom wise the Rockford is more power per wattage, and they don't cost as much.

I am currently pushing 2 MTX TR7510's in my Mazda 6. I have fully sound dampened the car inside from the firewall back to the rear bumper. I'm hitting right at 127dB. That's 2 10's.
Here is some more info... These are just the 10's from each company (not shallow mounts) MTX TR7510: $250 - $400, 400W RMS, 93oz magnet, 94.1dB SPL JL 10W7 : $350 - $600, 750W RMS, 180oz magnet, 84.3dB SPL Rockford T210 : $250 - $650, 800W RMS, 192oz magnet, 81dB SPL There is the facts, from the companies. You can base your ideas, opinions from there. For the price, the power to watt output and over all SPL. MTX FTW |
