I have a Kenwood DNX9960. I'd definitely recommend the 9980. I've had two Kenwood units and they are awesome.

Hey, just found this thread and I have the exact same choice to make. I was leaning towards the Kenwood 9980HD but the installer I found recommends the Clarion NX501 (and it's a lot cheaper). Which one did you end up going with?

Thanks!

Funny, I did a bunch more research last night and decided on the Pioneer Z130BT. The deciding factor for me was 1) I've read the Kenwood is a bit slow and 2) I like the Aha Radio app that can integrate Facebook, etc from your iphone/ipad.

I'm sure they are both great units though!

The 9960 and 9980HD had the issue of being slow, but the 9990HD has no lag in the action. Go to youtube and look up 9990HD. There is a video of the unit being used. That was my coup de grace.

Ahhh I didn't read closely enough, thought you said the 9980. Yes, if the 9990 were available NOW, I probably would have gone with that one. But I just can't wait any longer to have Nav in my car!!! You'll have to keep us posted on how you like it. Do you know when it's supposed to be available?

I would wait for the new models but if I had to choose from them it would be alpine all day.

I probably should have mentioned that the most important feature to me is Navigation. I hardly leave the house without using my nav!! I read really bad reviews about the Alphine nav functionality but good ones for Kenwood and Pioneer.

Well the new models will be out with all new nav system including free traffic updates for life.

I was going to get the 910 before I read about the new alpine models myself.

Kenwood comes next than pioneer last for me.

I used to be an Alpine Fanatic. From the radio, monitor, 12 disc cd changer, all the way to the surf board size first digital 5 channel amp. But when I got into the double din nav units, I found Alpine was lacking with their U.S. models. I went to Japan and their units were the cream de la cream. The GUI was awesome, but one problem... I can't read Japanese. My brother can, but he will not always be with me in the car. U.S. model Alpines, for lack of better terms, were a little blah for my taste. Trust me, I had the DVA-9965 with a MRV-F757. I love my clarity, but I also love the functionality too.

Nothing but respect, Big
